Leo D. Spain, 82, of The Alverno, Clinton, formerly of Petersville,
died today in Mercy Hospital in Clinton.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Immaculate Conception
Church, Petersville, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation
will be after 2 p.m. Sunday in Hanrahan Funeral Home, DeWitt, with a
rosary recited at 8 p.m.

He was born April 1, 1900 in Petersville, to William J. and Mary
McGarry Spain. He was a retired farmer and a lifelong resident of the
Petersville area. He was a member of Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include three brothers, Ambrose of Delmar, Paul of Charlotte
and Ronald of Goose Lake; and a sister, Vivian Goodall of Delmar.

He was preceded in death by twin brothers and a sister.

Ambrose J. Spain, 72, of Delmar died today in Mercy Hospital, Davenport.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Patrick's Catholic Church,
Delmar; with the Rev. Francis Bass officiating. Burial will be in
St. Patrick's Cemetery, Delmar.  Visitation will be after 2
p.m. Wednesday in the Haylock, O'Hara and Kedley Funeral Home,
Maquoketa, where a rosary will be recited at 8 p.m.

Mr. Spain was born Nov. 24, 1912, in Petersville, to William and Mary
McGary Spain.  He married Geraldine McDonnell, June 22, 1937, in Villa
Nova. He farmed in the Delmar area and was a member of St. Patrick's
Church.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Al (Donna)
Determan of DeWitt, Mrs. Gene (Patricia) Held of East Moline, and
Mrs. Mel (Diane) Seng of Davenport; four sons, Duane and Dean, both of
Maquoketa, Alan of Goose Lake, and Dennis of DeWitt; 16 grandchildren;
two great-grandchildren; a sister, Vivian Goodall of Delmar; and two
brothers, Paul of Charlotte, and Ronald of Goose Lake.

He was preceded in death by a sister and three brothers.

She was born May 5, 1916, in Villa Nova to John and Ella Laughlin
McDonnell. She married Ambrose J. Spain on June 22, 1937, at
St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Villa Nova. He died in 1985.

She attended Clinton County country schools and high school.

She and her husband farmed in the Delmar until 1985. In her early
years, she taught in Clinton County rural schools.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Delmar, and its
Altar and Rosary Society.

Survivors include three daughters, Donna Determan of DeWitt, Patricia
(Gene) Held of East Moline, Ill., and Diane (Mel) Seng of Davenport;
four sons, Duane (Fran) Spain and Dean (Pam) Spain, both of Maquoketa,
Alan Spain of Clinton and Dennis (Renee) Spain of DeWitt; 17
grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Memorials are preferred.

burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 19, 2007, at 11 a.m. at
St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Delmar, with the Rev. David Brownfield

loved spending time with her family. She is survived by three

Illinois, and Diane (Mel) Seng, Davenport; four sons, Duane (Fran)
Spain and Dean (Pam) Spain, both of Maquoketa, Alan Spain, Clinton,
and Dennis (Renee) Spain, DeWitt; 17 grandchildren; and 13
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her
parents, three sisters, and a son-in-law, Al Determan, on December 1,
