J. N. LUCEY DEAD Jeremiah N. Lucey of Merrill, who has been a resident of Iowa for seventy four years, died at the hospital (illegible as was torn), December 12, after a long illness. In a race with death, his son Dr. Lee Lucey of Wichita Falls, Texas, arrived a few hours before the pioneer died despite delay by railroad wrecks. Mr. Lucey lived at Boone from 1850 to 1880, coming from Freeport, Illinois where he was born. He then moved to Carroll, and from there to Odebolt. He moved to Merrill in 1891. He married Miss Catherine McAndrews at Vail in 1883. Surviving children are George, Marcus; Philip, of Souix City, Joseph and Marquette of Merrill; Lee, Wichita Falls, Texas; Mrs D. E. Lambert of LeMars, Mrs. H. E. Cody, Sioux City, and Miss Clare, Merrill. He also leaves two sisters , Mrs Gene Lovejoy, Des Moines, and Mrs. George Micka, Mason City; and a brother, D. F. Lucey of Chicago. Funeral services were held at Merrill Monday. Mr. Lucey was 78 years old. He will be remembered by many Odebolt friends.
