Patrick Donegan Patrick L. Donegan, 75, brother of the Hon. Maurice F. Donegan, Davenport, Associate Justice of th Supreme Court in Iowa, died in Mercy Hospital at 1;20 p.m. Wednesday, after a lingering illness. He resided at 2319 East High Street. The body was moved to the Halligan mortuary where funeral arrangements will be made. Mr. Donegan was born September 4, 1861 near Welton, Iowa. and had been a resident of Davenport since 1894. He was associated with the Davenport Vinegar and Pickling works as president and general manager from 1902 to 1926. Earlier in his career he had been a railway mail agent on the run between West Liberty and Council Bluffs, and while a resident of Welton, served as postmaster and operated a general store in that community. He married Miss Elizabeth Cunningham February 21, 1889 in Davenport and the couple have resided here since that time. Surviving him are his wife, of Davenport, two daughters, Mrs. Marie Taylor of Hinsdale, Ill. and Mrs. Elizabeth Loftus of Davenport and one son, Robert Donegan of Fresno, California. Other survivors are four brothers, James J. of Davenport, Maurice F., also of this city, Jerry of Welton, and Dennis of Clinton, and a sister Mrs. Mary Showalter of Davenport. One son, Edward, preceded him in death while enlisted in the service during the World War. Donegan 76, of Park Tower. She died Wednesday in Mercy Hospital. The Rev E. J. Weeg will officiate. The funeral will be preceded by a 10 a.m. prayer service in Delaney-Vulich Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Patrick's cemetery, Delmar. Visitation will be until 8 p.m. today. Miss Donegan was born January 12, 1906 in Welton, Iowa to Dennis and Mary McMahon Donegan. She was employed for many years at Clinton Wire Cloth Co. and at the lunch counter in Kresge's and Jupiter's. She was a member of the Sacred Heart church. Survivors include cousins, Cosimir Donegan of Milwaukee, Wis. and James Donegan of Sebring, Florida. She was preceded in death by a brother Francis. His death followed a prolonged illness. The body will be removed late this p.m. from the S. M. Delaney Chapel to the family home, where friends may call. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning with Requiem Mass at 9 O'clock in St. Mary's church. Burial will be in Delmar. Francis Donegan was born August 7, 1901 (to Dennis and Mary McMahon Donegan) in Welton. Previous to his illness he had been employed as a custodian at St. Mary's school. High Street, a life resident, died in her home at 5 p.m. Monday after a brief illness. Elizabeth Cunningham was born May 11, 1864 in Davenport and was married to Patrick Donegan on Feb. 21, 1889 in the Sacred Heart Cathedral. Mrs. Donegan was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society of St. Paul the Apostle Church. Her husband preceded her in death. Surviving are 2 daughters, Mrs. Clay Taylor, Downer's Grove, Ill., and Mrs. Edward Loftus, Davenport; one son, Robert M., Bakersville, Calif; three grandchildren, Nancy Taylor and Gerald and Donna Donegan; and 2 sisters, Mrs. Margaret Quinn and Miss Rose Cunningham, both of Davenport. Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Thursday in the Halligan Funeral Home and at 9 a.m. in St. Paul the Apostle Church. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Donegan of Bakersfield, Calif., formerly of Davenport, was killed Saturday when the bicycle on which he was riding was struck by a car. The funeral will be held in Bakersfield Tuesday. Surviving besides the parents are a brother, Gerald; a sister, Donna; both of Bakersfield and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. P.L. Donegan, of Dubuque, Iowa, formerly of Davenport, and Sebring, Fla., will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Visitation is one hour before the service with a rosary recited before the visitation. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Mrs. Donegan died Saturday, May 22, 1999, at Ennoble Manor Care Center, Dubuque. She retired in 1987 as a floral arranger at West End Gardens floral shop in Davenport. Clevatine Gressman was born Sept. 16, 1902, in Davenport. She married James Donegan in 1936 in Aledo, Ill. He died in 1987. Memorials may be made to Dubuque Hospice or a favorite charity.
