A Rush County, Indiana, Newspaper circa 1940 Vol. 37, No. 116 ---------- Frank H. Green, Surgeon, Dies Tuuesday Night ---------- Dr. Frank Hayes Green, 64, a local physician for forty-three years, expired Tuesday night at his home, 314 North Perkins street. Dr. Green had been seriously ill for many weeks and his condition had ben critical for some time. His death came quietly at 11:10 p.m. He was a lifelong resident of Rush county, having been born in Arlington July 20, 1876, the son of Dr. Lot and Cordelia J. [Barnard] Green. He was a grandson of Dr. and Mrs. James Green. After attending common school in Jackson township and at Ging, he was graduated form the high school at the latter place and in 1897 was graduated from Indiana Medical School at Indianapolis before he was twenty-one. Following his graduation, he began the practice of medicine here with his father 43 years ago and was widely known as a physician and surgeon. He had operated the Dr. Frank H. Green hospital here since 1919. He served in the United States army during the World war and was a captain in the medical corps, being stationed at Montgomery, Ala., and at Fort Oglethrope, Ga. A lifelong Republican, Dr. Green was a former coroner of Rush county. Dr. Green was a member of the First Presbyterian church, the Elks and Masonic lodges and the American Legion post of this city. He also was affiliated with the Rush County, Indiana and Sixth district medical societies. He was president of the Rushville High School athletic board, an organization formed to erect Memorial gymnasium. Together with the late Dr. Will Smith, he attended Mrs. Wendell Willkie when her son, Phillip, was born here twenty years ago. The Republican presidential nominee and has wife had planned to call on Dr. Green during their proposed visit to Rushville next month. He was first married to Kate R. Kiplinger who preceded him in death in 1931. His second marriage was to Mrs. Mary Green, who survives him. Other survivors are four brothers, Lucien L. of Indianapolis, Dr. Charles S. and Derby of Rushville and Hal Green of near this city. One son preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at the late residence at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon with Rev. Charles I Stephenson of Hopkinsville, Ky., a former local pastor, in charge. Burial will be in East Hill. Friends may call at the Green house at any time. Pall bearers will be Cliff Winship and Fred Bell from the Elks, Charles Wilson and Chase Mauzy from the Masons, Morris Howell and Gus Schrichte from the Legion and Dr. J. F. Bowen and Dr. Charles L. Smullen from the Rush County Medical society. Other members of the latter organization will serve as honorary pall bearers. ------------------------ Obituary Listing. Green, 90, Rushville, a retired physician, will be at 10 a.m. March 27 in Todd Funeral Home, with calling from 4 to 8 p.m. March 26. He died March 23. Dr. Green worked in family medicine for 52 years, retiring in 1985. He also served as Rush County public health officer from 1950 to 1996. He was a charter member, delegate and past president of the American Academy of Family Practice and received the Les Bibler Award from the organization in 1981. Dr. Green was a delegate to the American Medical Association, served 14 years on the state board of Blue Shield and was a member of the advisory board of the Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Home, Knightstown. He was a member of the board of directors of First Indiana Bank. Dr. Green was a 50-year member of Rushville Rotary Club and a 58-year member of the Columbia Club. He also was a member of Rushville Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine, Elks Club 1307 and Beta Theta Pi fraternity. A 1932 graduate of Indiana University School of Medicine, he served on the dean's council and was past president of the alumni association.
