MILES R. MATTHEWS
		    Nov. 25, 1907 -- Feb. 3, 2005

Miles R. Matthews, 97, of Carthage, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, in
the Hancock County Nursing Home in Carthage.

He was born Nov. 25, 1907, near Augusta, a son of Daniel Marion and
Alice Belle VanWinkle Matthews. He married Harriett Lucille Hayes on
Dec. 10, 1931, in Carrollton. She survives.

He is survived by one son, Miles R. Matthew, II of Quincy; one sister,
Coretta Peterson of Augusta; one granddaughter; and three
great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.

He is a retired farmer. He was a member of the Augusta Christian
Church. He was a 50-year member of Loren E. Hurst Lodge #286 AF&AM in
Plymouth and a member of the Modern Woodmen. He enjoyed woodworking,
fishing and hunting.

Graveside services were held Saturday, Feb. 5, in Woodlawn Cemetery in
Augusta. Rev. Tom Mehaffy officiated.

Memorial may be made to the Woodlawn Cemetery Association.
