GUY STOOKEY Hoyt Lakes, Minn. Guy Jay Stookey, 80, of Hoyt Lakes, Minn., died of cancer Saturday at Veterans Medical Center in Minneapolis. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Aurora, Minn., of which he was a member. Burial, with military rites, will be at Hoyt Lakes Cemetery in Hoyt Lakes. Mr. Stookey was born in Altoona and had lived in the Des Moines area most of his life. He had spent his summers in Hoyt Lakes and his winters in Phoenix for the past 19 years. He was a retired business agent with Teamsters Union Local 90 in Des Moines and also had been a clerk and truck driver with Globe Machine and Supply Co. here. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8144 in Hoyt Lakes. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie a daughter, Carol Meter of Cedar Rapids four sons, Steven of Chandler, Ariz., Thomas of Colfax, Joseph of Lebanon, Ohio, and David of Frisco, Colo. a foster son, Steven "Chip" Pete of Flagstaff, Ariz. a sister, Lois Brunea of Norwalk two brothers, Hal of Spring, Texas, and David of Apple Valley, Minn. 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Aurora. Stookey, 70, formerly of Des Moines, passed away of suspected heart failure in Livingston, TX July 28, 2007. Dorothy was born in Nebraska October 4, 1946. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, September 16 at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens. Cremation will follow the funeral services and private burial will be held at a later date. Marvin and Jackie were united in marriage in 1957. Marvin was in the Marine Corps from 1952 until 1955 and he joined the Des Moines Police Department in 1957, where he served 35 years. Marvin loved spending his winters in Arizona where he and Jackie maintained a winter home. He was a member of Des Moines Police Burial Association, the ZaGaZig Shrine and the First Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife, Jackie; son, Jeff; daughter, Vicki; grandson, Jeff Jr.; granddaughter, Katie; and a brother, Fred. He was preceded in death by his father, Wilbur; mother, Viola; and son, Steve. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
