Summary of MATTHEWS seen on the Pulaski Co. Tax Lists 1799-1829 Read and Typed by Dennis Nicklaus June 1994. Year MATTHEWS listed ---- --------------- 1799 Joseph 1800 Joseph 1804 Daniel David James Joel 1805 Daniel David James Joel 1806 Daniel James Joel Burge Samuel 1807 Daniel David James Joel Obediah Burgess Samuel 1808 Daniel David James Joel Obediah Burges 1809 James Joel Burgess Jeremiah (Up to this point, the tax list was in 2 or 3 different "Parts" and the Burgess & Samuel listings were in a different part than the others, possibly implying that they lived in a different part of the county.) 1810 Daniel James Obediah Burgess James, Lewis Jr. 1811 Daniel James Joel Obediah Burgess 1812 Daniel James Joel Obediah Burgess 1813 James Burgess Elizabeth 1814 David Joel Obediah For 1814, there is a James MATHEUSES listed who is the only MATHEUSES listed ever, so it may just be a case of bad handwriting or something. 1815 James Joel Obediah 1816 Joel 1817 Joel (no more MATTHEWS listed) TQ was born in 1807. He said his father (James) moved when he was about 8 yrs old. Note that James disappears from the Tax roll for good after 1815 (TQ was 8 in 1815). Joel disappears in 1818. Maybe he died as he would have been about 70 since he had a son (TQ's father James) born 1779. MORGAN listings 1800 Adonijah 1801-1085 Adonijah, Lewis 1807 Adonijah, Lewis 1808-1809 Adonijah, Lewis Sr., Lewis Jr. 1810 Adeniah, Lewis Sr. 1811 Ade, Lewis Sr., Lewis Jr. 1812 Adanijah, Lewis Sr., Lewis Jr. 1813 Adonijah, Lewis 1814 Adonijah, Lewis, John 1815 Adonijah, Lewis, John, White 1816 Adonijah, Lewis, John, White 1817 Adonijah, John, White, Wm. 1818 White, Wm. 1819 Lewis White 1820 Lewis 1821-22 Lewis White 1823 Lewis 1824 Lewis, Samuel (This line of MORGAN's disappears after that). Note that the Adonijah MORGAN has to be Jane Chlo's father since the his son Adonijah was only born in 1804. Adonijah's son Lewis was born in 1788, so it seems unlikely he'd be on the tax rolls of 1801. Thus the first Lewis listings must be Adonijah's father, Lewis. The Lewis, Jr starting 1808 could be Adonijah's son. (he would have been 20 years old then). John starting in 1814 may be John Blair MORGAN, Adonijah's son, who would have been 23 at the time. White starting in 1815 is almost certainly Ad.'s son who would have been 21 years old that year. The Samuel and Wm. are probably too young to have been Adonijah's offspring. Other listings of interest: 1805 John VARDEMAN (probably relation to Elizabeth MORGAN VARDEMAN who was old Lewis MORGAN's sister). First appearance of the Quarles family (TQ's namesake?). 1805 Tunell Quarles, Jr. 1806 Tunstell Quals Reference: TITLE Pulaski County, Kentucky tax list index 1799-1829 / copied from microfilm by members of the Pulaski County Historical Society. -- LOCATION Wisconsin State Historical Society Library Pamphlet Collection CALL NO. 84- 252
