It was explained to me that the wife had to sign off her right of
dower even though she was not on the title.  This below is all on the
same page in KeokukCo.  I get the feeling that there must have been
more on another page, but I thought that I looked.

T. Q. Matthew, hereby relinquishes all her right of dower in the above described
premises.  In testimony whereof the said party of the first have hereunto set
their hand the day and year first above written.

Before me H Mann, a notary Public in and for said county, personally came, T. Q.
Matthew and Harriet Matthews, to me personally known to be the identical persons
whom names are affixed to the above deed as grantor, and acknowledged the
execution of the same to be their voluntary act and deed. Witness my hand and
official Seal, the day and year above written.

Know all men by these presents that we the undersigned  Grantors in
consideration of the sum of Ten Dollars in hand paid by the Grantee, the receipt
whereof is hereby acknowledged do hereby sell and convey unto T. Q. Matthew, the
following described real estate situated in Keokuk County, State of Iowa to wit:
commencing at the S W corner of the S W 1/4 of the N E 1/4 quarter of Section
Twenty three (23) in Township Seventy Seven, 77, North of Range Eleven (11) West
and run North thirty five (35) rods and nine (9) links, then East thirty six
(36) and five links, then South thirty (35) Rods and five links thence West
thirty Six (36) rods and five links containing eight acres, and we do hereby
claim that we have good right, and lawful authority to sell the same, that the
same is free from encumbrance and we covenant to warrant and defend said
premises against the lawful claim of all persons whomsoever.
In Testimony whereof we have hereunto set on this 8th day of August A D 1862
