Joshua Ballard Joshua A. Ballard was born on February 1st, 1848, in Keokuk County, Iowa and died at his home near Pleasant Grove on January 11, 1914, aged 70 yrs. 11 months and 11 days. He was married on Feb. 1, 1866, to Jane Weddle, at Marengo, Iowa. To them were born six children, three of them together with the wife have preceeded him in death. The three that are left to mourn the death of a kind and loving father are Frank Ballard, James Ballard and Mrs. Tally Owen, all of North English. He also leaves three grandchildren, Mrs. Zella Wagner, Harold Claypool and Lona Ballard and two brothers and one sister, Newton Ballard of North English, Charles Ballard of Lincoln, Ark., and Mrs. Ellen Pettit of Luther Okla. There are many other relatives and a host of friends besides these, who deeply mourn his death. Mr. Ballard was a soldier of the Civil War, having served for his country 3 years, and being honorably discharged. He was a good man who commanded the respect of his fellows all thru a long and useful life.
