JAMES FREDRICK HAZEL James Fredrick Hazel, 79, Kansas City, MO passed away Friday, October 6, 2000, at St. Joseph Health Center. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, October 10, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Chapel, I-435 at Holmes Rd.; burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday, October 9, at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Christian Church, Kansas City, MO. Mr. Hazel was born in Elmdale, KS, the youngest of seven children of Herman A. and Mamie Gertrude Harris Hazel. After grade school, the family moved to Sedalia, MO, where James graduated from Smith Cotton High School. After serving in the Navy in WWII, Mr. Hazel located to Kansas City, where he was employed by International Harvester for 28 years and 12 years at RMF in Kansas City, MO. During this time, he served our country in the Korean War. In 1947, he married Maxine Decker. Mr. Hazel was a member of the Community Christian Church for 47 years, where he served as a deacon and elder. Mr. Hazel was a member of the Elks Club Lodge 26. He served as a Neighborhood Commissioner for the Boy Scouts for 12 years and was inducted into the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, an honorary organization for outstanding leadership and model for Boy Scouts. Upon retiring, Mr. Hazel did volunteer community service for Community Christian Church. Mr. Hazel was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine; two brothers, Herman and Marvin; and two sisters, Vivian Harmes and Winona Hazel. He is survived by his brother, George of Scottsdale, AZ and sister, Mary Bivens of Sedalia, MO; two children, Cynthia Kay Besser of Kansas City, MO and James Russell Hazel of Kansas City, MO; and five grandchildren, Brian, Jason, Jennifer, Kimberly, and Sean.
