William F. Morgan DIED--In Steady Run Township, in Keokuk county, on Wednesday morning, April 21st, 1880, William F. Morgan, in the seventy sixth year of his age. The writer of this has known Mr. Morgan for twenty years as a worthy and respected citizen of this township. He has for years been afflicted with illness, his last sickness being of only one week's duration. His death was indeed a sad blow to his wife, and his daughters, Mrs. Joseph and Mrs. Anson Skinner of Creston, Iowa, and a great loss to the community. He was a quiet and upright man, and without a fault so far as human eye could see; but with all his goodness we could not keep him longer with us, The God of Providence is supreme in power, but infinitely good and loving to toward all of his creatures. The funeral ceremonies took place at his late residence. A very feeling and appropriate sermon was preached by Rev. John Orr, from John 11:35, the text being "Jesus wept." He was followed to Mount Zion cemetery by a large concourse of friends and neighbors, and laid by the side of his first wife. The deceased united with the New School Presbyterian Church, of which he remained a consistent and good member until the organization went down, and not having a church of his choice, he united with the M. E. Church at Mt. Zion in 1878. He lived a Christian life and an upright man, and his spirit has joined those of others of the pure and good who have gone before. The deceased was born July 31st, 1804 in Pulaski county, Kentucky. His parents moved to Indiana in 1818. Here he grew to manhood, and was educated. In 1849 he came to Iowa. In 1854 he was elected to the Iowa Legislature, beating Col. Crocker, of Des Moines. He served one term only. He was the first Whig to carry the district. He has been Justice of the Peace perhaps one-half of the time since he has been in this township, and before leaving Indiana he held the same office for several years. He has been married twice; the first time in 1827, to Miss Elizabeth Boggs, of Kentucky; the second time to Mrs. Elizabeth Reynolds, a native of Ohio, who now mourns her loss.
