Bert Raymond Morrison, son of Rosa Anne Troger and James Morrison, was born July 7, 1894 in a farm in the White Pigeon neighborhood in Keokuk county, and died July 29, 1952 at the age of 58. He attended Porter rural school through eight grade. He was graduated from North English high school with the class of 1913. Finishing high school he enrolled at the University of Iowa. Bert enlisted in World War I and served nearly a year in France. He returned to North English for several years following the war. From here he went to Chicago where for twenty five years he was a supervisor in Ward's advertising art department until his health forced his retirement. Coming back to North English he made his home with his brother, Charles, for 3 1/2 years. All the loving care of a sister was given him by his sister-in-law, Linnie Morrison, when a bad heart slowed the tempo of life and quelled the urges of vibrant living. To his nieces, Charlene and Evelyn Morrison, he was a grand, "Uncle Bert" and to him they were as close as daughters. Later Charlene's daughter. Linda, was a source of comfort with her baby in many ways. To all his nieces and nephews he was one who left them a spiritual heritage. He was receded in death by his parents, a brother, Ed of Keswick, and sister and three brothers who died in childhood. He is survived by brothers, Charles of North English, Ben of Mapleton, Jess of Denver, Colo. Morley of Chicago and two sisters, Mrs. Sadie Shugar of Wilton Junction who tenderly cared for him in his last hours, and Mrs. Alice Mahannah of Miami, Florida, number of nieces and nephews and a legion of friends. Bert had been a member of the Masonic lodge for many years. Bert possessed a keen mind and a friendly disposition. As a youth Bert was an outstanding athlete, and always maintained a keen interest in sports, as well as in his work and the affairs of the nation. August 13, 1952 Re-typed by Lyman Morrison, 1995.
