Harold Franklin, 93 Harold L. Franklin, 93, recently of Coralville, died Sunday, August 6, 2006, at Mercy Hospital following a long illness. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 11, 2006, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Jim Verba and Deacon Jerry Miller co-officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. Thursday at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Ave. where a vigil service will begin at 5:30 p.m. There will also be a visitation Friday at the church from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions can be made out in Harold's name to St. Patrick's Catholic Church or Iowa City Hospice. Harold was born on June 17, 1913 in Iowa City, IA to Alfred and Ellen Wilkinson Franklin. He attended grade school at St. Patrick's and graduated from City High School in 1931 and from Brown Business College in 1935. Harold married Mary "Ferne" Morrison on July 12, 1937 in Cedar Rapids, IA. They resided in Iowa City until 2005. Harold worked for the University of Iowa as a purchasing agent and manager of General Stores for 40+ years, until his retirement in 1983. Harold and Mary enjoyed the last 20 winters in Mesa, AZ. Harold served on the Board of Appeals for Iowa City and was active in scouting and Babe Ruth baseball when his boys were young. He loved his family, friends, woodworking and lapidary work. He enjoyed dancing and was an avid pool and card player. Harold is survived by his wife Mary "Ferne", three children; Phyllis Franklin-Devine (Wilbur "Butch") of Waukee, IA, Stephen (Mary) Franklin of Harrisburg, PA and Scott (Sue) Franklin of Des Moines, IA; five grandchildren; Jeffrey (Debbie) Franklin, James (Karen) Franklin, Lissa Franklin, Michael Franklin, and Nicholas Franklin; four great-grandchildren; Joshua Franklin, Leah Franklin, Kyle Franklin, and Paige Franklin; and two step-great-grandchildren; Nicole Devine-French and Chris Devine.
