Lester Lamont Littrel July 25, 1921 - November 14, 2005 North English, Iowa Visitation: 4 pm until 8 pm November 16, 2005 at Powell Funeral Home, North English Funeral Service: 10:30 am November 17, 2005 at Powell Funeral Home, North English Lester Lamont Littrel, age 84, died following a brief illness on Monday, November 14, 2005, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. A celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, November 17th at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English with Pastor Don Ridenour officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 16, 2005 at the funeral home from 4 pm until 8 pm. Burial will be in the North English Cemetery. He is survived by his wife Frances of North English; a daughter Patty (Dan) Skokan of Newton, IA; 2 step grandchildren: Mike (Deanna) and Bryan (Darcey) Skokan; 6 step great grandchildren: Matthew, Ashley, Nichole, Brittany, Jonathon & James Skokan. Also surviving are 6 brothers and sisters: June Lanphier of Oskaloosa, IA; Ward Littrel of Hudson, IA; Eugene Littrel of San Bernadina, CA; Larry Littrel of Marshalltown, IA; Dean Littrel of Marshalltown, IA; and Carol Jean Akers of West Des Moines, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step mother Winifred Littrel and brothers Stanley & Tom Littrel and a sister Marilyn Pemberton. Lamont was born on July 25, 1921 in Riverside, IA, the son of Leal and Minnie Manasmith Littrel. He attended country school near Kalona, IA, before his family moved to the Deep River, IA, area. On May 28, 1943 he was united in marriage to Frances M. Wilkerson in Manchester, TN. Lamont served with the US Army in the Philippines during World War II. After the war they made their home in North English. Lamont worked as a mechanic at the Ayers and Van Auken Ford dealerships in North English and later drove a tank wagon. He retired after 21 years working for the English Valleys School System as a custodian and bus driver. He also was owner and operator of the Dairy Creme in North English for 12 years. Lamont loved to work in his garden and yard, and tinker with cars, especially with his '37 Ford. He was a member of the North English Christian Church, the VFW and the American Legion and a former member of the North English Fire Department. From www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
