John Cranny, of Vail, and Timothy and Daniel Hudson, were here to attend the funeral of the late Timothy Cranny, who died at Mercy Hospital, Davenport, Monday last. Clinton Daily Herald 22 Oct 1892 Just the above text in sort of a local news column. ------------- PATRICK CRANNY PASSES AWAY Patrick Cranny died Saturday morning at 5 o'clock in a hospital in Dubuque after an illness of about a year's duration. His remains were brought to Villanova and after services this morning at 9:30 o'clock at the Villanova church, were interred in the church cemetery. He is survived by two daughters, Genevieve and Vivian, who are in St. Vincent's convent in Dubuque; also by one sister and two brothers, Mrs. Gluesing of South Dakota, Joseph Cranny of Charlotte and Daniel of Centerville, S. D. He was about 60 years of age and had been married twice. His first wife was Clara Downey of Odebolt and his secod was Julia Malone of Davenport. He lived in DeWitt for a number of years, was quiet, of a retiring disposition and highly esteemed Clinton Advertiser Monday May 1, 1916 Patrick is believed to be a nephew of Timothy Cranny. ------------- Below is a clipping from a notebook of Bridget De Sales Shannon Patrick Cranny Esq., prominent figure in Washington Twp,.died at his home, age about 80 years, a native of County Queens, Ireland. Came to Iowa from Kentucky in 1854, where he had resided about 5 years. At this time Washington Township was but sparsely settled and he, with other residents endured the hardships incident to the pioneers of any settlement. Five sons and 1 daughter survive, John of Vail, Timothy and Daniel of Black Hawk County, Joseph who resides on the old homestead.[*] and Mrs. Gleusing (sp.) of Black Hawk County. His wife died October 22, 1862. Mass at St. Patrick's church at Villa Nova celebrated by Father Daily, assisted by Fathers O'Dowd of Deep Creek, Maher of De Witt, Riorden of Grand Mound and Kienan of Villa Nova.
