The Observer, DeWitt, Iowa, Saturday, April 1, 2000 Mary Leone Hunter Funeral services for Mary Leone Hunter, 86, of DeWitt will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 1, at St. Joseph Catholic Church DeWitt. She died Wednesday, March 29, 2000, at Crest Health Center in Davenport. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation was at the Nelson-Heesch Funeral Home in DeWitt, 3-8 p.m., Friday. Mary Burke was born Sept. 3, 1913, in Charlotte to William and Elizabeth Hanrahan Burke. She taught handicapped children at Truman School in Davenport for 17 years and at country schools prior to that. She married Joseph Hunter Jan. 14, 1939, in DeWitt. He died in 1988. She enjoyed her children and grandchildren. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph Alter and Rosary Society and St. Paul Catholic Church in Davenport. Survivors include sons, Jack of Rock Island, Ill., and Chuck of DeWitt; and daughters, Jean Ulloa of Eldridge, Jane Mercure of Kenniwick, Wash., Helen Kruse of Eldridge and Mary Jo McMann of Frankfort, Ill.; 26 grandchildren and 20 great- grandchildren. Hunter, 86, of DeWitt, Iowa, died peacefully on Sunday, October 12, 2008, at West Wing Place in DeWitt, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, October 16, 2008, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, DeWitt, Iowa, with the Reverend H. Robert Harness as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery with a luncheon following the burial at Buzzy’s in Welton. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Charles was a graduate of St. Joseph’s High School. He married Yvonne Budde (daughter of Alfred and Lucille Budde of Maquoketa) on October 3, 1945, in Maquoketa. Among Chuck’s greatest joys were his family and his lifelong occupation of farming. His family feels blessed as "he couldn’t have been a better father and grandfather." Chuck was an active member of the Iowa Farmer Union, Democratic Party, and St. Joseph’s Parish, DeWitt, and a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and Knights of Columbus Local Council. He will be lovingly remembered and is survived by his five children: four sons, Michael and his wife Sheila, Bellevue, Iowa, Steve and his wife Mary Ellen, Davenport, Iowa, Timothy, DeWitt, Iowa, and Patrick and his wife Chris, DeWitt, Iowa; and a daughter, Lynne Ishak and her husband Magdi, Southborough, Mass.; 12 grandchildren, Abby, Andrew, Angela, Anthony, Amy, Christopher, Jeffrey, John, Mark, Thomas, Todd and Sean; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Manship, Coolidge, Arizona; as well as many sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends.
