Clinton CLARA E. HYDE Clara E. Hyde, 68, of 503 18th Ave. S., died Thursday at Mercy hospital. Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas Doyle officiating. a prayer service will precede the mass at 10 a.m. Monday in the Schmitz Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Schmitz Funeral Home where a joint parish and Daughter's of Isabella rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Pallbearers will be Terry, Coley, and Erik Hyde, Paul Regenwether, Mike McKone, and Mike Nixon. Mrs. Hyde was born June 12, 1916, in Delmar to Edward and Mary Smith* Smith. She married Edward J. Hyde, Nov. 6, 1936, in Clinton. He died Aug. 11, 1969. Mrs. Hyde worked at Nielsen's Clearing House retiring in 1980. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society of the Church, the Daughter's of Isabella, and the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Auxiliary. Survivors include a daughter, Leah Rea Hyde of Davenport; two sons, Lauren R. Hyde of Clinton and Gene Hyde of Des Moines; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters Bernadine Glanz of Davenport and Mrs. Myrtle O'Donnell of Williamsburg, Iowa.; and a brother, Walter Smith of Rock Island. She was precede in death by her husband and a brother. *The maiden name of Smith of Clara's mother was corrected by hand in pen to Welsh. Dated Jan. 1985. This newspaper clipping was sent in a letter to Regina Shannon Smith by Catherine Torpey. Catherine noted in her letter that Clara's mother was a cousin of Catherine and Regina's grandmother (Catherine Lawler Farrell) through the Reed clan.
