Mrs. Wm. Reed Mrs. William Reed, pioneer resident of Dawson county since 1888, passed away at the family residence in Lexington, March 29, 1936. Her illness was of short duration. Her death came as a great shock to her family and her many friends and her passing leaves profound sorrow in this community. Her qualities endeared her to all with whom she came in contact. She was a devoted mother and helpmate and a kind neighbor and understanding friend. She was a fervent and devoted member of the Catholic church. Elizabeth Mangan Reed was born at De Witt, Iowa, May 1, 1863. She was the daughter of Peter Mangan and Katherine McFaul Mangan. She was educated and grew to womanhood in that community. She was married to Wm. Reed, in St. Patrick's church at Villa Nova, April 18, 1888. In the fall of the same year they came to Nebraska. They took up their residence on a farm north of Lexington where they resided until they moved to Lexington in 1922. To this union seven children were born, two of whom, Mae and Loretta, with Mr. Reed preceded her in death. Five children survive, Thomas, Gertrude, William, Elizabeth and Lillian, all of Lexington. A brother, John Mangan, of De Witt, Iowa, also survives Mrs. Reed. Funeral services were held from St. Ann's church in Lexington, Tuesday forenoon and burial was in the local Catholic cemetery. Jack Rademacher officiated and committal was in St. Ann's cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were Marion Menke, Albert Hanson, D.D. Ernet, Jess Likes, Clifford Bossung, Leonard Stuart, Joe Gillett, Alfred Krings, William Kelly, Phillip Stieb, Charlton Stuart, and George L. Martin. Casket carriers were George Keller, Walter Dodson, Ray Schmidt, Albert A. Kjar, Lawrence Weber, and Merle Dunlap. Reed, life long resident of Lexington community, died Friday in the local hospital. He was 82. Born one June 13, 1889 in Dawson County, the son of William And Elizabeth Managan Reed, he attended schools here and graduated with the high school class of 1908. He is survived by one sister, Miss Gertrude Reed of Lexington. In death he was preceded by his parents, three sisters and one brother. Clipper December 9, 1971 ---------------------------- William Reed Died Saturday Morning William Reed, 41, well known and popular young farmer and cattle feeder, died here at his home early Saturday morning following an illness of more than three years. He had been confined to his home, seriously ill, for the past month and his passing was not unexpected. William Richard Reed was born at Lexington, December 30, 1899, and had made his home here continuously since that time. He was associated with his brother, Tom, in cattle feeding and farming, and made his home with his brother, Tom, and sisters, Elizabeth, Gertrude and Lillian. He was preceded in death by his father and mother and two sisters, Mae and Loretta. The funeral services were held Monday at St. Ann's Catholic church with Rev. T. F. Reed Monday William Reed, 40, prominent and farmer and cattle feeder, and member of one of Lexington's pioneer families, died at his home in Lexington Saturday after a lingering illness of several years. Reed, passed away at her home Saturday morning following an illness of only a few days. She was born in Lexington, on November 12, 1892, and died May 18, 1935. She graduated from the Lexington high school in 1910. She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Wm. Reed, two brothers, Tom and Bill Reed, three sisters, Elizabeth, Lillian and Gertrude Reed. Funeral services were held at the Catholic church on Monday morning, May 20, 1935. Rev. Father Minogue conducted the services and music was rendered by the choir. Dawson County (Nebr.) Pioneer Lexington, NE May 24, 1935 ---------------------------- Gertrude Reed, Last of Pioneer Family is Gone Miss Gertrude M. Reed, 79, life-long resident of Lexington, died Wednesday, Jan. 30 at the Lexington Community Hospital where she was hospitalized two weeks. Funeral Mass was conducted Friday morning at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lexington with Father Harold Kurtenbach conducting the service. Interment was in St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were Walter Dodson, Raymon Schmidt, Lawrence Weber, Albert Kjar, Charlton Stuart and Merle Dunlap. Honorary pallbearers were Phillip Stieb, George Johnson, Jesse Likes, Charles Prasch, Leonard Stuart and Maron Menke. She was born Nov. 9, 1894 to William and Elizabeth Mangan Reed at Lexington. She graduated from Lexington High School in 1914 and attended Kearney State Teachers College and taught school a number of years before retirement. Miss Reed was the last of the six children born to the pioneer Reed parents and was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Lauretta, Lillian, Elizabeth and two brothers, William and Tom. She is survived by a brother-in-law, Ed Bellinger of Lexington and cousins in Omaha and Iowa. Dawson County (Nebr.) Herald Lexington, NE Feb 4, 1974 ---------------------------- Obituary On Saturday, November 27, Sister Mary Teresita, formerly Miss Mary Catherine Reed, passed quietly away at St. Catherine's Hospital, Omaha. Her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. William Reed, and brother Thomas, were present a few hours before her death, which was cause by pneumonia. Mary Catherine Reed was born on May 24, 1897, in Hillside precinct, Dawson county, and was well known in Lexington, where she attended the high school. She graduated from Mount Saint Mary's Seminary, Omaha, in June, 1918. She returned to Mount Saint Mary's in August of the same year and entered upon her neviatiate in the community of sisters under whom she had studied. Since then she had spent her time in study and preparation for a life of teaching. Sister Mary Teresita was beloved by all who knew her, always forgetting self, she was known for her sweetness of disposition and kindness to others, and was one whom intimacy made more dear. Besides her friends in Lexington, she had many school friends in Omaha, all of whom offer sympathy to her sorrowing family. The funeral services were held in Mount Saint Mary's Chapel and interment was made in the community section of the Holy Sepulchur cemetery. Bellinger, the former Lillian Reed, a lifelong resident of Lexington, died Friday in an Omaha hospital, which she had entered Thursday. She had been in failing health for some time. Mr. Bellinger, her sister, Miss Gertrude Reed, and her brother, Tom Reed, were at her bedside Friday. Funeral services will be at 9:30 Monday morning (today) in St. Ann's Catholic church and interment will be in St. Ann's cemetery. Rosary will be recited at the church at 7:30 Sunday evening. Mrs. Bellinger, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Reed, pioneer settlers north of Lexington, was born on the family farm Sept. 1, 1907. She was a graduate of Lexington high school and Creighton University and taught in the Lexington schools and at Yuma, Ariz. She married E. L. Bellinger Feb. 14, 1942, at Hope, Ark., and they lived in Omaha and Seattle before returning to Lexington to reside. Surviving are her husband; one sister, Gertrude Reed of Lexington, and one brother, Tom Reed of Lexington. She was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother. Dawson County (Nebr.) Herald Lexington, NE Sept. 13, 1965 ---------------------------- Edward L. Bellinger Died in Cozad; Rites at St. Ann's Edward L. Bellinger, 82, a resident of Lexington more than 40 years, died Monday evening at Southview Manor in Cozad where he had been a patient for the past several weeks. Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday morning at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lexington with Father Walter Phillips officiating. Interment was in St. Ann's Catholic cemetery at Lexington with Reynolds-Love Mortuary in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Kevin Fagot, Randy Fagot, Dennis Williams, Mike Roe, Greg Fagot and Jeff Fagot. He was born Feb. 28, 1903 at Manhattan, Kan. He served in the military service during World War II and soon after his discharge came to Lexington and was employed in construction work of the Tri-County Canal and Johnson Lake. He was united in marriage to Lillian Reed of Lexington who preceded him in death a number of years ago. He was married to Mary Fagot of Lexington and they have made their home in Lexington since that time. He is survived by his wife, Mary, Lexington; five nephews, one niece, and several step-children.
