March 3, 1945: Clinton Herald DeWitt: Last rites for T. F. Reed of Chelsea, former DeWitt resident, were held at 9 a.m. in St. Joseph's Catholic church. The Rev. John Moriarty celebrated a requiem high mass and preached the funeral sermon. Members of the children choir sang. Pallbearers included James Gribbon, Leonard Hayes, J. P. Dignan, Dennis Cannon, T. F. Crowley, and M. J. Kearney. Burial was in St. Joseph's cemetery. Among those here from out of town for the service were Dr. and Mrs. Flynn and family of Chelsea, Mr. & Mrs. Fahling and family, Tama, Edward Reed, Mr. & Mrs. Hillard Knapp, Cedar Rapids, Miss Anne Reed, Dougherty, Ed Coffee of Ohio, Illinois, Mr. & Mrs. H. C. White and family of Albany, Ill as well as many from other towns in this immediate vicinity. Thomas F. Reed, who has made his home for sometime with his daughter, Mrs. Veronica Flynn, Chelsea, died Tuesday, February 27, 1945 in Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Friday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church with the Rev. John Moriarty officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's cemetery. The body is at the Hanrahan funeral home here where friends may call after 6 p.m. tonight. Mr. Reed was born July 13, 1857 in Clinton County, the son of Mr. & Mrs. Thomas Reed, On August 19, 1891 he married Mary Coffee in Albany, Ill. He was in business in DeWitt for many years and operated a restaurant before retiring. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Flynn, Chelsea, and Mrs. Ella Fahling, Tama, one son Edward of Cedar Rapids, and 7 grandchildren. His wife preceded him in death.
