MAJOR GIFT HONORS INEZ SCOTT CARTWRIGHT The family of Inez Scott Cartwright has contributed $100,000 to the Historical Society to create in her honor the Inez Scott Cartwright Endowment for the preservation and use of historical materials. Mrs. Cartwright (1889-1953) came from a family distinguished in Disciples higher education. Her mother taught classical studies at Abingdon College (the alma mater of J. H. Garrison). Her mother's parents were leaders in the early history of Hiram College and Drake University. Her physician father and his family were involved in the early history of Butler University and Drake. Mrs. Cartwright served prominently as president of the National Council of Ministers' Wives at the 1942 International Convention. She spoke at the International Convention of 1939 on the theme, "Building a Christian Home." Her life's commitment was to her family. She was the wife of Lin Cartwright, a distinguished pastor and journalist. She was mother to Professor Dorwin P. Cartwright, Roberta Cartwright Warren and the Reverend Doctor Colbert Scott Cartwright. Dorwin Cartwright, representing the family, affirms the fund's purpose: "for the preservation and use of historical materials from the Stone-Campbell Movement." President Peter Morgan commended the family. "This Disciples family has distinguished itself in congregational ministry, Christian journalism and Christian scholarship. That significant place in history was possible because of the strength, intelligence and Christian commitment of Inez Scott Cartwright. By this fitting tribute to their mother the family has further distinguished itself in Christian philanthropy. I extend my deepest appreciation on behalf of the Society and the congregations and scholars who will benefit from our strengthened ministry."
