HARRIETT VIOLA HOUSMAN GROVE - Harriett Viola Housman of Grove died Friday, October 25, 2002 at her Grand Lake home. She was 77. Harriett was born December 23, 1924 to Perry O. and Leona Silvara in Ft. Worth, Texas. She worked as a telephone operator during WWII. She worked as an insurance sales representative for Mutual of Omaha Co. and Banker Life and Casualty Co., earning top salesman of the year award multiple times. Harriett has attended and volunteered at churches all her life, including roles such as church organist, choir director, Sunday School, and Bible teacher. She was currently attending First Baptist Church in Southwest City, Mo. She loved her cats and enjoyed the view through the two-story, all glass north wall of her house on Grand Lake. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Lowell Silvara and Raymond Silvara; and her sister, Marguerite (Silvara) Birkes. Survivors include: her husband of 60 years, James A. Housman; her children, Ronald L. Housman of Grove, and Robyn (Housman) Caruthers of Tulsa, Okla.; one brother, Melvin Silvara of Oroville, Calif.; four grandchildren, Olivia and Whitney Caruthers of Tulsa, Tina and John Housman of San Antonio, Texas; and many nieces and nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. The family expresses deep gratitude to those who loved and cared for Harriett. Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29, at the First Baptist Church in Southwest City with Rev. Ray Clanton officiating. Donations may be made to the Missouri Baptist Children's Home in care of the church, or the Cornerstone Bank in Southwest City.
