UNITY R. SCOTT. August 31, in the 79th year of her age, Sister Unity R. Scott. Mother Scott, as she was familiarly called, was born in North Carolina. In early childhood she moved with her parents to Ohio. She was married at Eaton, in her twenty-first year, to Bro. Alex. Scott. They settled in Indiana -- first in Wayne county, subsequently in Cass county, near Logansport; finally located near the present village of Burnettsville, which was their home nearly forty years. Seven years ago they removed to the home of their oldest son, Dr. C. Scott, near Monticello, where they were at the time of her death. She was reared a Presbyterian; but in early womanhood united with the Christian connection. Soon after her marriage she and Father Scott embraced the principles of the Disciples. In their house the Church of Christ of this place was organized nearly forty years ago. Mother Scott was a close student of the Bible, and a clear thinker; and though reticent in public, in the home and social circle she was an able defender of Bible truth. Many have learned from her the way of life more perfectly. Her faith was serene and beautiful to the end. Father Scott, who is now in his eighty-seventh year, is growing deaf. When she became to weak to make him hear, she said to her daughter, "Tell father to wait until we get to heaven, and then we can talk." She leaves her aged companion, a daughter, five sons and many grandchildren to mourn her loss. A daughter and two sons preceded her to the other shore. "She rests from her labors, and her works do follow her." W. Irelan The Christian Standard, Sept. 21, 1878, page 307.
