Robert Eldridge Robert Eldridge, 58, of Sigourney died Thursday, August 14, 1986 at University hospital in Iowa City after a brief illness. He was born October 21, 1927 in Sigourney, the son of Paul and Viola Rose Eldridge. He was a postal clerk for 40 years in Sigourney, retiring January of 1984. He was employed at the University of Iowa starting in June of 1985 as a caretaker and custodian. He was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church in Sigourney. On February 11, 1950 he married Ruth Shannon in Sigourney. He was a veteran of World War II and was a member of the American Legion and the National Letter Carriers Association. He is survived by his wife, Ruth of Sigourney, eight children, Catherine of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, Jan Hatch of Urbandale, Iowa, Jo Ellen Carney of Pennington, New Jersey, Mary Eldridge of Cedar Rapids, Minnie Folman of Urbandale, Patrick of Cedar Falls, Gregory of Gypsum, Colorado and Paul of Trenton, New Jersey; 2 brothers , Charles of Kingman, Arizona and Larry of Sigourney; 5 sisters and 5 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 1 grandchild. Funeral services were August 16 at St. Marys church with Msgr. Edward Greer officiating. Casket bearers were Douglas Adam, Tim Applegate, Stan Griener, Jeff Hammes, Jerry Hammes and Tim Shannon. Burial was in Pleasant Grove cemetery at Sigourney. Reynolds Funeral Home was in charge. Ruth later (June 8, 1988) married James William Johnson Sr. Typed by Lyman Morrison, 1995.
