Mervin Flander of Nevada Dies Mervin J. Flander, 69, of Carson City, Nev., died Saturday July 1, 1995, at Carson Tahoe Hospital. He was born April 25, 1926, in Sigourney to Leo J. and Loretta Shannon Flander. He married Margaret Walker on June 14, 1950, in Sigourney. Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Waverly where he practiced law and served as County Attorney for Bremer County for 11 years. At the time of his death, he was bureau chief for the state of Nevada services to the blind, which he served for 30 years. He served in the US Army during World War II. He was member of the Maverick Lions Club in Carson City, Nev. He was also a member of the Purchase from the blind and other Severely Handicapped Committees. He was preceded in death by his parents: a brother, Leo Eugene on Sept. 11, 1987, in Bloomington, Ind., and one grandson. He is survived by his wife, Margaret of Carson City, Nev.; sons, J. Richard of Anticoch, Calif., and David M. Of Carson City, Nev.; Daughters, Sister Debra Flander S.O.S.H. of Big Bear, Calif., and Pamela J. Flander-Harris of San Francisco, Calif.; sisters, Mrs. Raymond Bruns and Helen Sheetz, both of Sigourney; brother, Leonard M. Flander of Winterset; and four grandchildren. Services were held at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church in Carson city, Nev., at 10:30 a.m. on July 7. A Committal service with full military honors was held at the Lane Mountain Cemetery in Carson City, Nev. Sigourney Paper, retyped by Lyman Morrison, 1995. Margaret A. (Marne) FLANDER Family and friends share the loss of Margaret A. Flander (Marne), age 76, at Manor Care rest home in Walnut Creek, CA. She was surrounded by her family when she died on December 2, 2005. Marne was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mervin J. Flander, her par ents Helen and Bernard Walker, her brother James M. Walker of High land, CA and grandson Joshua Anderson of Carson City, NV. She was the beloved sister to Mary Bradfield, brother-in-law Ralph Bradfield of Rialto, CA and brother Urban Walker of San Bernardino, CA. She was much loved by her children, J. Richard Flander of Antioch, CA, sister Debra Flander of Los Angeles, CA, Pamela J. Harris of San Francisco, CA and David Flander of Ruckersville, VA. She cherished her grand children Michael, Sascha, Cassie, Blain, Alicia Margaret Ann and great-grandson, Nathaniel Flander. She was loved by her many nieces and nephews for her playful and childlike spirit. She was loved by so many friends, it is impossible to list all here. Marne was born January 13, 1929 in Washington, IA. She was raised on a farm in Washington, IA. She attended College at Ottumwa Heights in Ottumwa, IA and graduated with a degree in education. She taught kindergarten and first grade while supporting her husband through college. She moved to Carson City, NV in 1965 where her husband was Bureau Chief to Services to the Blind for almost 30 years. She loved being a stay-at-home mom. We are grateful to bring her home to Carson City, the home she loved. She loved being surrounded by the mountains. She enjoyed playing bingo and keno with what she affectionately called her Bingo Buddies. It was a place she could have community with her dear friends at the Silver Spur and Nugget casinos. Family and friends are invited to attend the Rosary at Walton's Chapel of the Valley in Carson city at 7:30 on Thursday night, December 8, 2005. The Funeral Mass will be held at her beloved parish, St. Theresa of Avila at 3:00pm on Friday, December 9, 2005. Burial will follow the Mass. A reception will follow the burial.
