Joseph G. Shannon Joseph Gerald Shannon, 74, died Friday evening May 14, 1971 at the Tower Park Nursing Home, Oskaloosa, where he had been residing the past year. He was born July 8, 1896 in Clinton county, the son of John and Teresa Farrell Shannon. He was employed as a truck driver for many years and also did tiling in the area. He was married to Clara Gries July 3, 1928 at St. Elizabeth Catholic church in Harper and they were parents of two sons; Francis of Davenport and Patrick of Sigourney. In addition to his wife and sons, he is survived by 9 grandchildren; 3 brothers, William of Keota, Francis A. of Sigourney and Urban of Milledgeville, Ga.; and three sisters, Mrs. Loretta Flander of Oskaloosa, Mrs Teresa Morrison and Mrs. Regina Smith, both of Sigourney. Preceding him in death were his parents and one grandson. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church in Sigourney, where funeral services were held Monday May 17 at 10:00 am with the Rev. Francis Lollich officiating, assisted by Rev. Norbert Showalter of Garnavillo and Rev. Eugene Smith and Rev. James Mackin of Fort Madison. The rosary was recited Sunday evening at the Reynolds Funeral chapel. Interment was in the Pleasant Grove cemetery at Sigourney. Casket bearers were James Gries, Dan Kent, Merle Morrison, Robert Schulte, Donald Shannon and Eugene Shannon. Mrs Joseph Shannon Clara Elizabeth Shannon, 83, died Dec 26, at Manor house in Sigourney where she had resided since January, 1985. She was born Sept 13, 1902 at Harper to Peter and Elizabeth Seiwert Gries. She married Joseph Shannon on July 8, 1928 at Harper. He preceded her in death May 14, 1971. She was a cook at St. Mary's Catholic school, Saner's Rest Home and the Keokuk county hospital. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church of Sigourney as well as its Altar and Rosary Society. She is survived by two sons, Francis Shannon of Davenport and Pat Shannon of Sigourney; 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and one sister Genine Jennings of Sigourney. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Peter and Ed Gries and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held Dec. 28 at 10:30 am at St. Mary's Catholic church in Sigourney with Msgr. Edward Greer officiating and buried in Pleasant Grove cemetery. Casket bearers were Jim Gries, Jeffrey Shannon, Randy Shannon, Rick Shannon, Terry Shannon and Stephen Shannon. Reynolds Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. December 26, 1985 Timothy Shannon Timothy Michael Shannon, age 14, died Wednesday afternoon December 25, 1974, at the University Hospital in Iowa City, following an Illness of more than 3 years. He was born November 23, 1960 in Sigourney, the son of Patrick and Rose Mary Merz Shannon and was in the eighth grade at Sigourney Middle School. He was a member of St. Mary's church in Sigourney, was a member of the school band and was active in football, basketball and track last year when his health permitted. Surviving are his parents; four brothers; Richard, a student at Worthburg College in Waverly, Terry, Randy and Jeffrey at home; his grandmother, Mrs. Clara Shannon of Sigourney; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Merz of Harper and a great grandmother, Mrs. Margaret Merz of Keota. His grandfather, Joseph Shannon preceded him in death. Funeral services were held. Sat. Dec., 28 at 10:00 am at St. Marys Catholic church with the Rev. Francis E. Lollich officiating. Interment was in Pleasant Grove cemetery. The rosary was recited Friday evening at the Reynolds Funeral chapel.
