Leo J. Flander Leo J. Flander, 70, of Oskaloosa, died Friday December 31, 1965 at the Camair Rest Home. He was born August 21, 1895 in Harper, the son of Michael and Veronica Woltering Flander. He was employed five years at the Veterans hospital in Iowa City. He is survived by his wife, Loretta; two daughters, Mrs. Raymond (La Vera) Bruns of Sigourney and Mrs. Charles (Helen) Sheetz of Ollie; three sons; Mervin J. of Carson City Nevada, L. Eugene of Minneapolis, Minn. and Leonard Michael of Winterset; one sister, Mrs. Stephen (Gertrude) Peiffer of Sigourney, and a brother Henry J. of Kinross; 21 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Cecilia Flander in 1911. Funeral services were held Monday, January 3 at St. Mary's Catholic church with the Rev. Dennis Cahalan officiating. Mrs. Leo Flander Mrs. Loretta Catherine Flander, age 80, of Oskaloosa died Monday January 13, 1975 at Mahaska Manor, where she had lived for five years. She was born August 3, 1894 at Dewitt, a daughter of John and Teresa Farrell Shannon. She attended school in Clinton Co. and graduated from New Hampton high school where she took normal training courses. She taught school several years. She married Leo J. Flander at St. Mary's church in Keota April 25, 1921. He preceded her in death December 31, 1965. She was a member of St. Mary's church in Oskaloosa and Lacey Kerr Auxiliary VFW 2308 of Sigourney. She was a former member of Auxiliary to WW 1 Veterans and was a past district president of that organization. Survivors include 2 daughters, Mrs. Raymond (La Vera) Bruns and Mrs. Charles (Helen) Sheetz of Sigourney; 3 sons, Mervin of Carson City, Nevada, Leo Eugene of St. Paul, Minn.and Leonard of Winterset; 22 grandchildren;15 great grandchildren 3 brothers, Allie Shannon of Sigourney, William of Keota and Urban of Milledgeville Ga.; and 2 sister, Mrs. R. B. (Regina) Smith and Mrs. Forrest (Teresa) Morrison of Sigourney. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Joseph Shannon of Sigourney. Funeral services were held Thursday January, 16 at St. Mary's Catholic church in Oskaloosa with Rev. Chas. Mannhardt officiating. Burial in St. Mary's cemetery there.
