Raynold B Smith Raynold Bernard Smith, age 71, died October 30, 1977 at the Keokuk County Hospital in Sigourney, where he had entered on October 3. Born October 26, 1900 near Harper, he was the son of Frank B. and Margaret A. Pauly Smith. He was married to Regina Shannon on November 29, 1930 at St. Mary's Catholic church in Sigourney, and for the past 31 years, they have lived on their farm northwest of Sigourney. He was a member of St. Mary's church. Surviving are his wife, a daughter Mrs. Robert (Elaine) Schulte of Keota; 5 grandchildren, Mrs. Jacquelyn Rees of Cedar falls, John, Lou, Daniel and Debra Schulte of Keota and two brothers, Clemens and Gregory Smith, both of Batavia. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Raymond and a sister Mrs. Lawrence (Edith) Bermel. Funeral services were held Wednesday November 2 at St. Mary's Catholic church with the Rev. Eugene Smith officiating. The Rosary was recited Tuesday evening at Reynolds Funeral Chapel. Interment was in Pleasant Grove cemetery at Sigourney. Casket bearers were James Deitrich, Jerry Deitrich, Merle Morrison, Eugene Shannon, Patrick Shannon and Paul Smith. Smith, 84, of Sigourney died Wednesday, January 20, 1993, in Manor House Care Center in Sigourney where she has resided since January, 1992. She was born December 2, 1908 near Grand Mound to John and Teresa Farrell Shannon. She married Raynold B. Smith on November 29, 1929. She graduated from Keswick High School and taught rural school until her marriage. They farmed until his death on October 30, 1977. She then moved to Keota and made her home there until moving to Manor House. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church in Sigourney and Altar and Rosary Society. She is survived by a daughter, Elaine Schulte and her husband Robert of Keota; five grandchildren, Jackie Rees and her husband Mike of Claremore, OK, John Schulte and his wife Deborah of Harper, Lori Schulte of Ottumwa; Dan Schulte of Washington and Debra Schulte of Sigourney; and two great grandchildren, Ryan and Lauren Schulte. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Joe, Allie, Bill and Urban Shannon; and two sisters, Loretta Flander and Theresa Morrison. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St Mary's Catholic church in Sigourney with the Rev. Robert Harness officiating; Mrs. Dorothy Phelps, organist. burial was in Pleasant Grove cemetery. Casket bearers included Mike Ahlbrecht, Don Bermel, James Deitrich, William Harper, Merle Morrison, Dan Schulte and John Schulte. Jackie was born June 19, 1949, in Washington, Iowa, to Robert and Elaine Schulte. She graduated from Keota High School and University of Northern Iowa. On January 13, 1983, she married Mike Rees in Ottumwa, Iowa. The couple lived in Claremore, Oklahoma where Jackie was employed by Eagle Global Logistics in Tulsa as a Licensed Customs Broker for 25 years. Survivors include her husband: Mike of Claremore, Oklahoma; two step daughters: Cody Cotton and husband Mike of Ormond Beach, Florida and Shawna Gelow and husband Jimmy of South Daytona, Florida; three step grandchildren: Jaiden and Jax Gelow and Johnathan Cotton; parents: Robert and Elaine Schulte of Keota; two brothers: John Schulte and wife Deborah of Harper and Dan Schulte and wife Amy of Keota; two sisters: Lori Schulte and Debra Kleinschmidt, both of Ottumwa; one nephew: Ryan Schulte and four nieces: Lauren, Abby, Jillian and Jaime Schulte. She was preceded in death by her grandparents. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemeteries - St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Harper. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, March 24, 2008, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where there will be a wake service at 7:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for St. Francis Hospice or Wilson Memorial Library.
