WILLIAM SHANNON William Irenaeus Shannon, age 85, died Monday afternoon, January 16, 1984 at Washington County Hospital where he had been a patient for four days. Funeral services were held Wednesday January 18, 1984 at St. Mary's catholic Church with Rev. Charles Mann officiating. Interment was at St. Mary's cemetery. A rosary service was held at 7:30 pm on Tuesday January 17, 1984 at Powell Funeral Home, Keota. A memorial fund has been established. Organist was Mrs. Dianna Sheets with music by the church choir. Pallbearers were Steve Breeding, Steve Shannon, Pat Shannon, Leo Adam, Tom Kidlinger and Merle Morrison. Mr. Shannon was born June 28, 1898 near Clinton, Iowa, the son of John and Teresa Farrell Shannon. He attended rural schools and came to the Keota area as a young man and was married January 13, 1925 to Veronica K.. Peiffer ar St. Mary's Catholic church in Keota. They farmed near Keota until moving to town in 1954. He was a member of St. Mary's church and the Keokuk County Farm Bureau. Survivors include his wife Veronica, three son; Dr. James Shannon, Topeka, Kansas. Dr. Donald Shannon, Houghton, Ia. and Dr. Edward Shannon, Barrington, Ill., eight grandchildren; one great granddaughter; two sister, Mrs. Teresa Morrison, and Mrs. Regina Smith of Keota, a brother Urban of Milledgeville, Georgia. He was preceded in death by two brothers; Allie and Joe; One sister Mrs. Loretta Flander. Keota Eagle Typed by Lyman Morrison, 1994. Sept. 8, 1990 at Maplewood Manor in Keota after a long illness. She was born Sept. 17, 1898 near Keota, to Paul and Margaret Buch Peiffer. She attended rural Clear Creek school. She married William I. Shannon on Jan. 13, 1925, at St. Marys Catholic Church in Keota. He died in 1984. She lived in Keota most of her life. She was a homemaker and a cook at Central Cafe in Keota. She was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church in Keota and the Altar and Rosary Society. She is survived by three sons, Dr. James Shannon of Topeka, Kan., Dr. Don Shannon of Houghton and Dr. Ed Shannon of Barrington, Ill.; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; three sisters, Laurena of Keota, Margaret Shannon of Sigourney, Pauline Linnekamp of Harper. She was preceded by her parents and her husband; two brothers, Ed and Elmer and one sister, Bertha. Funeral services were held on Tues., Sept. 11 at 10 a.m. at St. Marys Catholic Church with Rev. Robert Harness officiating. Linda Sieren was organist. St. Marys Choir provided the music. Casketbearers were Doug Hogan, Steve Boeding, Steve Shannon, Tom Redlinger, Earl Adam and Paul Peiffer. Burial; was at St. Mary Cemetery. Memorials go to St. Marys Church in Keota. Powell Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
