Burroughs grad to aid LAUSD Daily News Thomas Boysen, a Burroughs High School graduate who helped reform Kentucky's public school system, has been named chief operating officer of the Los Angeles Unified School District, officials announced. Boysen, who assumes the $215,000-a-year post in mid-Feruary, will oversee human resources, business and finance, facilities, information technology, and research and assessment. Most recently, he has been responsible for the Milken Family Foundation's education grants and programs. Previously, he served as Kentucky's first commissioner of education from 1991 to 1995, overseeing implementation of the landmark Kentucky Education Reform act that involved significant changes in instruction, finance and governance. Boysen graduated from Burroughs High School in Burbank, received his bachelor's degree in history from Stanford University and his doctorate from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
