Donald Edward Shannon Jan 19 2001 12:00AM Donald Edward Shannon, 80, Worthington, Minn., died Sunday at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne, Minn. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Worthington with the Rev. Larry Brixius officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington, where a prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Worthington. He was born July 6, 1920, in Charlotte to Edward and Marie Gohlmann Shannon. On Sept. 6, 1941, he married Gloria Dolan in Clinton. She died in 1995. He graduated from high school in Clinton. He attended the Army Air Corps Cadet School and served in the Air Corps from 1943 to 1946. After his time in the service, he returned to Clinton and worked for the Commonwealth Loan Co. In 1949, the couple moved to Worthington and he worked for Credit Records. He became the executive director for the Southwestern Minnesota Opportunity Council in 1971. He retired in 1985. He was a delegate for the 1952 DFL Convention in Chicago, served on the Police Commission for a few years and served on the St. Mary's School Board and Parish Council. He was a fourth-degree Knights of Columbus member and a member of the American Legion. Survivors include six children, Theodore Shannon of Woodbury, Minn., David Shannon of Burlington, Mrs. Angeline (John) Nord of Grand Forks, N.D., Mrs. Colleen (Marty) Sieve of Lake George, Minn., Marc Shannon of Fargo, N.D., and Mrs. Susan (Tim) Luing of Worthington; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Leola Sleeper of Doniphan, Mo., and Madonna Wing of Worthington.
