Obituaries Leonard McDermott Leonard McDermott, 74, of Petersville died Sunday, Oct 3, at Finley Hospital, Dubuque. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 6 (today), at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Petersvill. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers are Steve Spain, George Burke, Matthew Wolfe, Bob Hughes, John Watters and Pat McDermott. Honorary pallbearers are Tony Kalb, Jim Wolf and Paul Dague. Visitation was Tuesday, 3-9 p.m. at the Nelson Funeral Home, DeWitt, where a scripture service was held at 7:30 p.m. Leonard McDermott was born Oct. 19, 1918, in DeWitt to William "Cleo" and Helena Beitenman McDermott. He married Marcella Irwin Oct. 1, 1942, in Petersville. He was a member of the church, a past member of the Knights of Columbus and the former Moose Lodge. He and his wife farmed 41 years in the Petersville area, retiring in 1983. They became resident caretakers at Immaculate Conception Church in 1984. He had also worked for the Chicago and NorthWestern Railroad 1962-67. Surviving are his wife; daughters Judy (Mrs. Jim) Wolfe of Cedar Rapids and Sue (Mrs. Tony) Kalb of Dubuque; sons, Jack of Maquoketa and Dick of DeWitt; sisters, Mary (Mrs. Joe) Ryan of DeWitt, Teresa McDermott of Oakland Hills, Ill., Ann (Mrs. Xavier) Barrios of San Francisco, Calif., Lois Sterenchuk and Helen Kane of Cedar Rapids and Josephine (Mrs. Paul) McMahon of Cottage Grove, Minn.; and a brother, Bill of DeWitt.
