Donald Kenney 1929 - 2004 Donald Vincent Kenney, 75, of Rock Island, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at Riverpark Health Care Center, Rock Island. Visitation is 1-4 p.m. today at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, with a rosary recited at 1 p.m. Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home and 10 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial is at National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Memorials may be made to St. Pius Church or the Alzheimer's Association. Donald was born Jan. 26, 1929, in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Charles and Agnes (Doyle) Kenney. He married Ann G. Dolan on June 30, 1956, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mason City, Iowa. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving on the submarine USS Charr. Donald was a member of Local 537 Operating Engineers and served as business manager from 1969 to 1997, later retiring in 1979. He also had served on the Rock Island Police and Fire Commission and was a chairman of the Metropolitan Airport Authority before the new airport was built. Donald also was instrumental in getting the charter for the Andalusia Community Bank and sat on the Board of Directors until ill health forced his retirement. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island, and VFW Post 9664, Camanche, Iowa. He enjoyed golfing and snow skiing and help running errands for his sons businesses in later years. Donald is survived by his wife, Ann; sons and daughter-in-law, Paul Kenney, Rock Island, and Dr. Casey and Courtney Kenney, Rock Island; granddaughters, Shannon, Erin and Colleen, all of Rock Island; sister, Rosemary Thyne, Clinton, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
