Edward Kenney 12/18/2001 ROCK ISLAND -- Edward J. Kenney, of Rock Island, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2001 at his home. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Arsenal Island Arsenal, where military honors will be presented by Moline American Legion Post 246. Visitation is 3-7 p.m. Wednesday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island, where a Christian wake service will be held at 3:30 p.m. He was born Feb. 3, 1929, in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Francis and Anne (Dever) Kenney. He married Henrietta L. Van Landt in July 29, 1950, in Clinton. Ed graduated from St. Ambrose College, Davenport. He was Executive Vice President of Mercy Hospital, Davenport. While at Mercy Hospital, Ed's duties included overseeing the construction of the new Mercy Hospital building. He had also served as Human Resources Director for Medic Ambulance, Davenport. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island, and its St. Vincent De Paul Society. Ed also served on the Board of Trustees of Trinity Regional Health System. For more than 40 years, he coached basketball and baseball at various levels throughout the Quad-Cities. He loved sports and especially enjoyed playing golf. Mr. Kenney was a Korean Veteran Army veteran, having served in the Counter Intelligence Corps. Memorials may be made to Alleman High School for a scholarship to be established in Ed's name or to Pathway Hospice. Survivors include his wife, Henrietta; children and their spouses, Tom (Jackie) Kenney, Thornton, Colo., Therese (Jim) Fitzpatrick, Fort Atkinson, Wis., Mary (Frank) Fuhr, Taylor Ridge, and Joe (Kim) Kenney, Chicago; grandchildren, Megan and Mike Fitzpatrick, Patrick Kenney and Chris and Amanda Fuhr; a sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Leonard Henricksen, Clinton; and brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Ursula Kenney, Clinton, and Richard and Sharon Kenney, Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.
