Mrs. Charles W. Kenney Answers Final Summons Her death a great grief - was at first improving from an operation performed last Friday - a sharp change for the worse ended in death. At 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon at Mercy Hospital occurred the death of Rose V., beloved wife of Charles W. Kenney, of Hampshire township. On last Friday Mrs. Kenney underwent a severe operation at the hospital but had seemed to be improving nicely when after a sharp and sudden change for the worse, she answered the final summons. She was 47 years, 4 months, 24 days of age. On April 10, 1893 she was united in marriage to Charles W. Kenney, who with seven children, four boys and three girls survive her. She leaves also her aged mother, Mrs. Julia Shannon of Center Grove; five brothers, M. N. Shannon, Center Grove; J. E. Shannon, Elma; T. L. Shannon, near Calumus; J. B. Shannon of St. Joseph, Mo. and four sisters, Mrs. James McDermott, Charlotte; Mrs. P. S. Farrell, Davenport; Mrs. L. E. Skelley, Kansas City; and Mrs. H. M. Smith of DeWitt. Mrs. Kenney was a woman of very lovable character, kindly toward all, and ever ready to aid those who suffered or sorrowed, a faithful loving wife and mother, a considerate neighbor and friend and a true and consistent Christian. To the bereaved husband and motherless children particularly is extended the sincere and tender sympathy of scores of friend, and to the mother, brothers and sisters also. The funeral will take place from St. Irenaeus church at 9:00 Saturday, leaving the residence in Hampshire township. at 7:30 am. Interment will be in Holy Cross cemetery. Clinton Daily Advertiser Thursday, May 19, 1910 Mrs. C.W. Kenny A sad and sudden death occurred at Mercy Hospital Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock when Mrs. C.W. Kenny breathed her last. Mrs. Kenny, with her husband and family of seven children, resided in Hampshire township, six miles west of Lyons and in Lyons where she was well and favorably known, deep regret is expressed for her untimely demise. Mrs. Kenny went to the hospital recently for treatment and last Friday underwent an operation for an ailment of a delicate nature. She rallied exceeding well after the ordeal and was in a fair way to complete recovery, until Wednesday morning when a sudden change came on and at two o'clock in the afternoon she breathed her last. By the death of Mrs. Kenny, a conscientious, Christian woman is removed from a sorrowing husband and a family of children are left motherless. Beside her husband and family, Mrs. Kenny is survived by her mother, four sisters, and five brothers. The sisters are Mrs. James McDermott of Charlotte, Mrs. P.S. Farrell, of Davenport, Mrs. L.C. Skelly of Kansas City, and Mrs. H. M. Smith of DeWitt. The surviving brothers are J.E. Shannon of Elma, M.N. of Charlotte, T.L. of Calamus, J.V. of St. Joseph, Mo., and W.J. of Chicago. The deceased maiden name was Rose Shannon and at the time of her demise was forty-five years old. She was a true Christian woman, a devout Catholic and the head of a happy home, the members of which have the sincere sympathy of all in their bereavement. The funeral will be held Saturday morning from her late residence to St. Irenaeus church at Lyons where a requiem high mass will be celebrated. The funeral cortege will arrive at the church about nine o'clock. The interment will be made in Holy Cross cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Pope Funeral Home, and a Christian wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. The pallbearers will be nephews. Kenney was born February 25, 1900 in Lyons, the son of Charles W. and Rose Shannon Kenney. He was a veteran of World War I and World II. He is survived by nieces and nephews. The funeral is at 10:00 on November 2 at St. Irenaeus church in Clinton, Iowa. Born in Clinton county March 17, 1897 to Charles and Rose (Shannon) Kenney. He married Anna Dever November 12, 1924 at Clinton. She preceded him in death. On June 1, 1956 he married Myra Lueders. He was a member of St. Irenaeus church. Survivors are his wife, three sons, John of Clinton, Edward of Rock Island, Ill. and Richard of Highland Park, Ill.; one daughter, Mrs.. Leonard (Jean) Hendricksen of Clinton and Andrew of St. Petersburg, Florida; one sister Monica Kenney of Port Sanilac, Michigan and several nieces and nephews. Kenney, 59. of 3006 Roosevelt Street, died Friday at University Hospital's, Iowa City, after a short illness. Friends may begin calling at 7 p.m. today at the Pope funeral home. Rev. E. F. Jackson will lead recitation of the rosary there at 2:30 p. m. Sunday. A requeim high mass will be offered Monday at 9 a.m. in St. Irenaeus church by Father Jackson, followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery. The former Anna Dever, daughter of John and Mary Mc Graw Dever Sr., was born August 23, 1896 in Clinton. Her marriage to Francis is P. Kenney took place November 12, 1924 in St. Irenaeus church. Mrs. Kenney was a member of St. Irenaeus church and Our Lady of Fatima society. Surviving are her husband: three sons, John of Clinton, Edward of Davenport and Richard, serving with the Army at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas; a daughter Mrs. Leonard (Jean) Hendricksen Jr. Clinton; four grandchildren; her mother Mrs. Mary Dever, Clinton, two sisters, Mrs. Mary Mc Donell, Clinton and Mrs. Matt Cain of Preston; and several nieces and nephews, Her father preceded her in death. Clinton Herald May 7, 1955 Mrs Stanley Martin Mrs. Stanley Martin of Preston, formerly Miss Beatrice Kenney, passed away at Mercy Hospital at 2:45 yesterday, afternoon, following an illness of the past two months. She had been a patient five weeks. Death was due to complications. The body reposes at the home of her father, Chas. W. L. A. Class of 1915. Her marriage to Stanley Martin of Preston occurred at St. Irenaeus church February 8, 1921. He with a son Donald and a daughter Marion, survive her. Also left to mourn her death are her father, Charles Kenney of Lyons; two sisters, Lillian Kenney at Oakdale and Monica Kenney of Lyons; and four brothers; Charles of Rockford, Andrew with the U. S. Mrs Ethel Kenney Mrs. Ethel Kenney, 75, of 919 North 2nd Street died this morning at Jane Lamb Hospital after a brief illness. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 am Saturday in St. Patrick's church with the Rev. Francis Hendricksen as celebrant and the Rev. Joseph Kokjohn officiating. Who knows? James G Kenney James Gerald Kenney, 55, of Lapeer, Michigan, a former Clinton resident, died Monday (Jan.15) in the Almont Community Hospital in Almont, Michigan. Funeral services and burial will be Thursday in Lapeer. He was born November 16, 1906 in Clinton, the son of C. W. and Rose Shannon Kenney. Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Kevin Cano, Sean, Scott, Shamus, Connor, Nolan, Evan and Trey Kenney. He was born Aug. 13, 1926, in Lyons to Francis and Anna Dever Kenney. He married Ursula Weber on Sept. 13, 1947, in Appleton, Wis. He graduated from Lyons High School in 1944. He served with the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He served in the Philippines. He was captured twice and was able to escape both times. He received a Purple Heart for wounds received on three different occasions. He attended Clinton Community College. He was a pipe fitter with E.I. DuPont for more than 34 years before retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish and AMVETS. He coached Little League Baseball and football and basketball at St. Irenaeus Grade School. He was a scorekeeper at St. Mary's, Mater Dei and Prince of Peace high schools for many years.Survivors include his wife; five children, Kathleen Cano of Clinton, Michael (Elise) Kenney of Mequon, Wis., Terry (Beth) Kenney of Clinton, Sheila (Ralph) Allocco of Tampa, Fla., and Brian (Karrie) Kenney of Clinton; 21 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one sister, Jean Henricksen of Clinton; one brother, Richard (Sharon) Kenney of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.; and two sisters-in-law, Henrietta Kenney of Rock Island and Ruth (Dennis) Emery of Hickory, N.C.
