U.S. Veteran Mr. William T. McDermott, 87, DeWitt, Iowa, died in his
home, Wednesday evening, April 11, 2007.

William Thomas McDermott was born March 8, 1920 in DeWitt, to William
Cleo and Helene (Beitenman) McDermott. He served in the 8th Army Air
Force in the US and European Theaters. Bill farmed for 27 years and
was a Rural Mail Carrier for 26 years, retiring in 1987. He married
Margaret Wisor May 27, 1948 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in
Clinton, Iowa.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, a member of
Iowa and National Rural Letter Carriers Association and a 61 year
member of the Eugene McManus American Legion Post #238, DeWitt.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret; three daughters and sons-in-law,
Jean and Jim Rogers, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Mary and Dick Scheirer,
Peoria, Illinois, and Anita and Dan Oshaben, Rancho Cucamonga,
California; a daughter-in-law, Jennifer Hall, Omaha, Nebraska; 10
grandchildren; four sisters, Mary (Joe) Ryan, DeWitt, Teresa
McDermott, Orland Hills, Illinois, Ann (Xavier)Barrios, San Fransico,
California, and Josephine (Paul) McMahon, Surfside. Beach, South
Carolina.

Preceding Bill in death were his parents, a son, Thomas, three sisters
and a brother.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home,
DeWitt, from 3 until 8 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 2007 with a rosary at 7
p.m. Additional visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the
Funeral Liturgy at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 16, 2007 at St. Joseph
Catholic Church, DeWitt. The Rev. Father David Brownfield
presiding. Burial and military rites by Eugene McManus Post #238 will
follow at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery, Petersville, Iowa.

Pallbearers will be Jim Rogers, Dick Scheirer, Dan Oshaben, Jim
Rogers, Jr., Greg Sewall and Nicholas Hall. Grandchildren will serve
as honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice Care or St. Joseph School in DeWitt.
