Joseph McDermott 1920 - 2002 Services for Joseph L. McDermott, 82, Maquoketa, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Maquoketa. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Maquoketa. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Haylock-O'Hara & Lahey Funeral Home, Maquoketa. A Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited there at 4:30 p.m. Mr. McDermott died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at Jackson County Public Hospital, Maquoketa, after an extended illness. He farmed for many years in the Delmar area. He was born Aug. 14, 1920, in Petersville. He married Caecilia Heusbourg in 1967 in Chicago. Survivors include his wife, Caecilia. McDermott, 82, of Maquoketa died Monday at the Jackson County Public Hospital, Maquoketa. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Maquoketa. The Rev. Tom McDermott and the Rev. Jim Burnett will be officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Maquoketa. He was born Aug. 14, 1920, in Petersville to James P. and Margaret Watters McDermott. He married Caecilia Heusbourg on Sept. 14, 1967, in Chicago, Ill. He attended country high school in Delmar and for two years in Charlotte. He farmed in the Delmar area for many years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Fr. Loosbrock Council 8269 Knights of Columbus, Dubourg Assembly 1573 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and a former member of the Maquoketa Lions Club. She was born March 18, 1915, in Frazee, Minn., to Nicholis J. and Anna M. Mentzior Heusbourg. She married Joseph McDermott on Sept. 14, 1967, in Chicago. He died in 2002. She was a homemaker and farmed with her husband in Delmar for many years. In her earlier years, she was a secretary with Hibeard-Spencer-Bartlett Co., Evanston, Ill. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, the Sacred Heart Guild, Catholic Daughters of America Ct. St. Raphael 1156, Maquoketa Womens Club and the Jackson County Regional Health Center Auxiliary.
