Patrick McDermott PETERSVILLE, Iowa -- Patrick C. McDermott, Petersville, died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2001, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, Davenport, after a stroke. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Petersville. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Petersville. Visitation is 2-8 p.m. today at the church, with a vigil at 7 p.m. Haylock-O'Hara & Lahey Funeral Home, Maquoketa, is in charge of arrangements. Mr. McDermott had farmed in Petersville and worked 21 years at Agri Con Quarries. He retired in 1988. He was born May 13, 1923, in Petersville. He married Mary Cain in 1947 in Preston. She died in 1990. During World War II, he served in the Army. A memorial fund has been established. Survivors include daughters, Barbara Balik and Madonna McDermott, both of St. Paul, Patricia Fey, Marshalltown, Angela Mattke, Davenport, Julie Kinrade, Maquoketa, and Regina Randall, Solon; sons, Mike, Clarence, Raymond, Marty and Jim, all of Delmar, Mark, DeWitt, and Dennis, Cedar Rapids; 25 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Joseph, Maquoketa. He was born on May 13, 1923, in Petersville, son of James P. and Margaret (Watters) McDermott. He married Mary Margaret Cain on May 26, 1947, in Preston; she died on Nov. 12, 1990. He was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Petersville. His family and friends treasure and celebrate his joy of life, love of children and his story telling. Surviving are six daughters, Barbara (Dan) Balik and Madonna McDermott (Marty Thomas), both of St. Paul, Minn., Patricia Fey (Mark Smith), of Marshalltown, Angela (David) Mattke, of Davenport, Julie (Steve) Kinrade, of Maquoketa, and Regina (Brad) Randall, of Solon; six sons, Mike (Colleen Irwin) McDermott, of Clarence, Raymond (Margie) McDermott, Marty (Anne) McDermott, and Jim McDermott, all of Delmar, Mark (Deb) McDermott, of DeWitt, and Dennis (Linda) McDermott, of Cedar Rapids; 25 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a brother, Joseph (Caecilia) McDermott, of Maquoketa; and a sister-in-law, of Arlene McDermott, of Grand Junction, Colo. DELMAR --- Margaret "Margie" McDermott, 50, of Delmar, died Saturday at Finley Hospital, Dubuque. Pallbearers will be Mike, Chad, Jimmy and Jon Thiel, Mike Wing and Brad Randall. Burial will be in the church cemetery. She was born April 23, 1956, in DeWitt to Jim and Mary Jackson Thiel. She married Raymond McDermott on June 29, 1979, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. She graduated from DeWitt High School. She also received her teaching education from Mount St. Claire, Clinton, and Marycrest College, Davenport. She spent most of her time as kindergarten teacher, first in Lost Nation for 13 years and then in Delwood for 11 years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, its altar society, the National Education Association and American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include her husband; one son, Luke (Shelly) McDermott of Delmar; one daughter, Maura McDermott, a student at Iowa State University; her father, Jim Thiel of DeWitt; two brothers, Bob (Jane) Thiel of Delmar and John Thiel of LeClaire; and nieces and nephews.
