Helene Kane CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Helene (McDermott) Kane, of 1824 Mallory St. S.W., died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, after a brief illness. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Wenceslaus Church, Cedar Rapids. The Rev. Clarence Frana, the Rev. Karl Glovik and the Rev. James Blocklinger will officiate. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Petersville. Visitation is 2:30-8 p.m. Friday with a rosary at 7 p.m. followed by a vigil wake service at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids. Helene managed the hot lunch program at St. Ludmila School and was on staff at the Czech and Slovak National Museum. Helene was born May 20, 1933, a daughter of William Cleo and Helena (Beitenman) McDermott, Charlotte. She married James Kane on Oct. 4,1958, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, DeWitt. She was a member of St. Wenceslaus and St. Ludmila Catholic parishes, St. Anne's Circle at St. Ludmila and Cedar Rapids Postal Auxiliary and a board member of St. Ludmila Credit Union. Helene was a very giving and loving person. Instead of flowers, memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association in memory of Helene. Survivors include her husband, James; sons, Terrance Kane, Phoenix, and Michael Kane (Dianne), Cedar Rapids; daughters, Ann Ketelsen (Thomas), Cedar Rapids, Mary Kane Betsill (David), Atlanta, and Jean Kane Graff (Joseph), Denver; her grandchildren, Jennifer, Adam, Jody and Jacob Kane, James Betsill and Sarah and Nicholas Graff; a brother, William McDermott, DeWitt; and sisters, Mary Ryan, DeWitt, Teresa McDermott, Chicago, Ann Barrios, San Francisco, and Joseph McMahon, Surfside Beach, S.C.
