James A. Redlinger, age 77, of Harper, died suddenly Wednesday, August 6, 2008, at his home. James was born June 13, 1931, near Harper, to John and Clara Anna (Sondag) Redlinger and graduated from St. Elizabeth High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge, James worked at Hammes Brothers Hardware in Harper until 1965. He then worked at Amana Refrigeration for 29 years, retiring in 1994. James then worked part time at Casey’s in Sigourney for several years. On October 19, 1963 he married Marcella Mae Bruns at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Parish and enjoyed his family, especially his granddaughters, crossword puzzles, mowing his yard and driving. Survivors include his wife: Marcella of Harper; five sons: Anthony James and wife Krista of Centennial, Colorado, Raymond John and wife LeeAnn of Boston, Massachusetts, Larry Joe and friend Pam Peiffer of Kalona, Kenneth Michael and wife Julie of Parker, Colorado and Kevin Lee and wife Jenny of Sigourney; four granddaughters: Samantha of Boston, Rachael of Parker and Bailey and Natalie of Sigourney; three brothers: Bernard and John, both of Harper and Cletus of Iowa City and two sisters: Mary Greiner of Keota and Virginia O’Donnell of Iowa City. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: Alvin and one sister: Leola Redlinger. A memorial mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 11, 2008, at Holy Trinity Parish-St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Harper, with Rev. Charles Fladung officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 10, 2008, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where there will be a wake service at 5:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the First Responders of Keokuk County.
