DAR announces Good Citizen awards Thursday, February 6th, 2003 By QUAD-CITY TIMES STAFF Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Awards will be presented to 10 outstanding students at an honors luncheon today at First Christian Church, Davenport. Sandra Curtis, regent of the Hannah Caldwell DAR Chapter will present the awards, assisted by Michelle Juehring, Bettendorf, Iowa State DAR Regent, and Sharon Stiff, Tipton, DAR Southeast District Director. Each school selected its most outstanding student based on the criteria of leadership, dependability, service and patriotism. Selected students are: ... Marie Ripslinger, Davenport North High School, daughter of Tracy and Joe Ripslinger, Davenport. She is a 4.0 member and secretary of the National Honor Society, captain of the volleyball team for two state qualifying years, captain of the cheerleading competition team and a national team qualifier. She earned the soccer Most Dedicated Player award. She is a school board representative and Junior Rotarian, participated in Mock Trial competition as the team captain, was a member of the Model UN Team and received the University of Iowa Howard Hughes Medical Foundation grant. She has a lengthy list of volunteer activities including lector, song leader, altar server, usher and church pianist, blood donor, youth coach for cheerleading and volleyball, and service in nursing homes.
