Long Grove Norbert Shannon Norbert Shannon, 57, rural Long Grove, died this morning at Osteopathic Hospital, Davenport. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anne's Catholic Church, Long Grove. Burial will be in the church cemeter. Visitation is after 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hanrahan Funeral Home, DeWitt, Iowa, where the rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Mr. Shannon was employed at the Bendix Co., Davenport. He [was] born in Charlotte, Iowa. He married Phyllis Sothmann in 1946 at Davenport. Survivors include his wife; daughers, Judith, Nancy, Mary Ann and Debra, all at home, and Katheryn, DeWitt; sons, John, St. Louis, Mo.; James, Davenport, and Dennis, Long Grove; two grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. Mary Long, Bettendorf, Mrs. Colette Ritslinger [sic-- DJN], and Mrs. Carmilla Summers, Florida, and a brother, Virgil, Davenport. Times Democrat (Davenport, Iowa) Oct. 28, 1974 Page 16 Shannon, Phyllis Jean Phyllis Jean Shannon, 84, died on Thursday, November 29, 2007, at her home in Long Grove. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 2, 2007, from 2 to 6 p.m. at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Long Grove. A prayer service will be held at 6 p.m. Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, December 3, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann's Catholic Church, with an additional visitation one hour before the services. Burial will be in St. Ann's Cemetery. Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Phyllis Jean Sothmann was born April 1, 1923, to John and Edna (Kuehl) Sothmann, in Davenport, Iowa. Phyllis graduated from Davenport High School in 1940. She married Norbert James Shannon on March 2, 1946, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Davenport. They moved to Long Grove in the summer of 1953, and she spent the rest of her life on the family farm. Norbert died in October of 1974. Phyllis worked most of her life as a mother and housekeeper. She began working for the North Scott School District in the fall of 1972, as a cook at the Jr./Sr. High School. She later became the head cook for the entire school district, retiring in 1987. She was very supportive of all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and their various activities. She was a great supporter of the North Scott School District, having served as Music Boosters president in 1964, while Norbert was also the Athletic Boosters president. She was a very active member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, the St. Ann's Guild, the morning mass group, Long Grove Civic League, American Legion Auxiliary Post #532. Memorials may be made to St. Ann's Catholic Church, Long Grove Fire Dept., or the Special Olympics. Phyllis is survived by a sister, Joan Lyngholm, Davenport; her 8 children; John (Linda), Placida, Fla., James (Janet), Bettendorf, Kathy (Harvey) Henningsen, with whom she resided in Long Grove, Dennis (Debbie), Eldridge, Judy, Darmstadt, Germany, Nancy, Long Grove, Mary Ann Kelly, Eldridge, Debra, Long Grove, and adopted daughter Jane Bergendahl, Long Grove; her grandchildren, Alan McClean, Jimmy, Danny, Kyle, Carlie, Ryan and Jeremy Shannon, Chris, Nathan, and Pressley Henningsen, Heather Claussen, Amy Hildebrandt, Jason Shannon, Carrie Jackson, Kelly Green, Jesse Morris, Nick and Nicole Kelly, and Jordon Shannon. There are 26 great-grandchildren, and 2 more on the way.
