Mrs. George Shannon Funeral Held Aug. 13 Funeral services for Mrs. George (Clara) Shannon of Elma were held Aug. 13 at 10:30 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception church in Elma. Mrs. Shannon died Aug. 11 in St. Josephs Community hospital in New Hampton of a heart condition after being ill the past seven years. The Rev. C. B. Norton officiated at the services and burial was in Calvary cemetery. She was born Feb. 8, 1894, in Watertown, Wis., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Elgas. She came to this area in 1919 with her previous residence being at Cedar Rapids. She attended the Immaculate Conception Academy at Elma and Upper Iowa at Fayette. She was a rural school teacher for seven years. She was a member of the Bid-Bye club and the Altar Rosary Society. On July 8, 1919, she was married to George L. Shannon at Cedar Rapids. There were seven children born to them. Six of these survive: Jean Shannon and Paul Shannon of New Hampton, Jerry Shannon of Minneapolis, Minn., Lee Shannon of Elma, Mrs. Gerald Gansem of Elma and Mrs. Robert Boos of New Hampton. She is also survived by two brothers, Steve Elgas of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Dan Elgas of Cedar Rpaids, and four sisters, Mrs. Margaret Sullivan of Dubuque, Mrs. M. Isabelle Elliott of Utica, Minn., Mrs. Leon Dostart of Riceville and Mrs. Allen Kohler of Vinton. There are 24 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Mrs. Shannon was preceded in death by her parents, who died in Cedar Rpaids but are buried in Elma, her husband, George, who died on June 25, 1966, and an infant daughter, Elizabeth, also four brothers, Anthony, John, Ben, and Pete and a sister Gertrude. Relatives and others who attended the funeral were from Cedar Rpaids, Clinton, Dlemar, Vinton, Dubuque, Waterloo, Osage, New Haven, Riceville, McIntire, Little Cedar, Stacyville, New Hampton, Charles City, St. Joseph, Mo., Oxnard, Calif., Chicago, S.
