Obituaries for Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2001 Joseph W. Blocker Joseph W. Blocker, 68, of La Quinta died Dec. 21, 2001. He was born Dec. 27, 1932, to Treat and Hazel Blocker in Hillsboro,Texas. He married Marilyn in Oct. 22, 1955, in Gardena. Blocker was a court commissioner, served in the Public Defender's office in Los Angeles County and was a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Stefanie Kovalchuk; and a brother-in-law, Alex Kovalchuk. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, with visitation and a vigil service prior to Mass at St. Francis Church in La Quinta. Burial will be in Coachella Valley Cemetery in Coachella. She was born Sept. 1, 1934, in Kansas City, Mo., to Peter John and Kathleen Starbuck Berger. She married Joseph W. Blocker Oct. 22, 1955, in Gardena.She was executive secretary to Walter Knott of Knott's Berry Farm for 10 years. A chapter organizer of the Civil War Roundtable, she belonged to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in La Quinta. She is survived by her husband, Joseph W. of La Quinta and her sister, Stephanie L. Kovalchuk of Stillwater, Minn. Visitation will be prior to celebration of a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.Interment will be in Coachella Valley Cemetery under the direction of FitzHenry Funeral Home, Indio.
