Shannon Lilah Mayme Shannon, 93, of Waupaca died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, at Bethany Home in Waupaca. She was born March 26, 1911, in Wisconsin Rapids, the daughter of the late Henry and Minnie Planke. Her mother died in childbirth, and she was adopted and raised by her aunt and uncle, Henry and Freda Manka of Wisconsin Rapids. Lilah graduated from Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids in 1929. She went on to graduate from Miss Brown's School for Girls in Milwaukee in 1932. She then attended the Chicago Art Institute for interior design. On April 2, 1934, she married Alvin Sanger in Wisconsin Rapids at the Lutheran Parsonage. She was married to Alvin for 35 years. He preceded her in death. She had two children with Alvin; Sally (deceased) (husband Mike) Weaver, Cedarburg, and Karl (Jan) Sanger, Waupaca. On July 8, 1972, Lilah married Thomas Shannon at Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Edwards. She was married to Tom for 16 years. He preceded her in death. Lilah had her own business as an interior decorator out of her home in Nekoosa for 23 years. She retired in 1972. She resided in Nekoosa for 38 years and Florida for 23 years. She moved back to Wisconsin in 1994 and has lived in Bethany House in Waupaca for the last few years. Mrs. Shannon was president of the PTA in Nekoosa; involved in the Ladies Aid at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Nekoosa as well as a vacation Bible School teacher. She was a volunteer at the hospital in Waupaca. She was a member of Shepherd of The Lakes Lutheran Church, Waupaca. Survivors include her son, Karl (Jan) Sanger, Waupaca; son-in-law, Mike Weaver, Cedarburg; six grandchildren, Sarah (Ray) Pecor, Laura Weaver, Todd (April) Weaver, Matt (Jenny) Sanger, Torri (Robert) Cruz, Jannah (Brian) Kaminske; and eight great-grandchildren, Noah Pecor, Sidney, Brock and Sayah Sanger, Gavin Cruz, and Nathan, Karter and Alison Kaminske. She was preceded in death by her parents, adoptive parents, her husbands, her daughter Sally, four sisters, Helen Planke, Lucille (Floyd) Lutz, Gladys (Charles) Laramie and Violet (Norbert) Leifer.
