Florence G. Day Obituary Longtime Alaska resident Florence Genevieve Day died Saturday, July 7, 2001, at her Anchorage home of emphysema. She was 77. The family will hold a reception on Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. at 6520 Bridget Drive in Anchorage. The family will attend a Catholic Mass offered in her name and her ashes will be interred at the Columbarium at the Shrine of St. Therese in Juneau. Mrs. Day was born in Ostrander, Wash., Dec. 1, 1923, to Charles and Eleanora Hansen. She met Dale Anthony Day in November 1945 and married him two weeks later. They moved to Ketchikan in 1952, Sitka in 1957 and in 1960 they settled in Juneau. Their five children hosted a 50th wedding anniversary celebration in Kelso, Wash., in November 1995. She worked for the state of Alaska Department of Revenue in Juneau until her retirement in 1977. She also worked for the Alaska District Council of Laborers in Juneau. Mr. and Mrs. Day moved to north Kenai in 1981. After the death of her husband in 1997, Florence lived with her daughters in Washington state, Fairbanks and Anchorage. "Florence was a joy to be around. Her vitality and humor would enliven any gathering. She provided a stable and consistent home that always welcomed family and friends," her family said. She enjoyed gardening, and grew award-winning vegetables in Kenai. Mrs. Day was preceded in death by her siblings James, William, Marion, Charleen, Gertrude and Margaret. She is survived by her daughters and their spouses Jennie Day and son-in-law William Peterson of Anchorage, Mary and son-in-law Paul Wallwork of Fairbanks and Laureen and son-in-law Jeff Deam of Snohomish, Wash.; daughter Ellen Doig of Anchorage; and son David Dale Day of Soldotna; grandchildren Steven Peterson, Dale Annette and Shannon Massey of Anchorage, Bobby Pasquan of Fairbanks, Cara Doig of Seattle, David Doig and Evan Doig of Anchorage, Brandy and Eddie Greenhaugh of Soldotna, Terra Randolph of Soldotna and Kirsten and Caleb Deam of Snohomish, Wash.; great-grandchildren Christopher, Dylan and Kaitlin Esary of Anchorage, Hailey Wickenhagen of Spokane, Wash., Jesse Dale Greenhaugh of Soldotna and Austin and Sierra Randolph of Kenai. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Hospice of Anchorage. Arrangements were made by Alaska Cremation Center in Anchorage.
