Obituaries Dr. Joseph L. Monahan, Jr., 77, of Clinton died Wednesday. April 30, 2004 Dr. Joseph L. Monahan, Jr., 77, of Clinton, Iowa, died, Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center North Campus, Clinton, IA. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 3, 2004, at the Prince of Peace Parish, Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Clinton with Father Jeff Belger officiating. Burial will be in the St. Irenaeus Cemetery. The Clinton AMVETS post #28 will be conducting military honors. Visitation will be Sunday, May 2, 2004 from 2:00pm till 6:00pm at the Clinton Chapel, Snell-Zornig Dennis A. Lemke Funeral Home and Crematory. Serving, as pallbearers will be Paul Kraciun, Harvey Evers, Dr. Robert Donnelly, Dr. Dale Weber, Dr. George York, and Dr. Suheil Barakat. Joseph Leonard Monahan, Jr. was born May 25, 1926 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Hulda (Bruhn) Monahan. He married Betty L. Shanahan on August 12, 1948 in Clinton, IA. He graduated from St. Mary's High School, and from St. Ambrose College with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He then attended medical school at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. He served in the United States Army Air Corp for one year entering in November of 1944 and being honorably discharged in November of 1945. He was one of the original five founders of Medical Associates Clinic. Dr. Monahan specialized in Obstetrics-Gynecology. In later years, he also specialized in Addiction Medicine. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish-Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and involved with the Clinton County Medical Society. Survivors include: Wife: Betty Monahan of Clinton, IA; 1 Son: Dr. Joseph Monahan, III of Clinton, IA; 2 Daughters: Trish Monahan (Bill) Lane of Sioux City, IA, Maureen Monahan (Jonathan) Arons of San Francisco, CA; 1 Sister: Mary Lou (Paul) Kraciun of Clinton, IA; 3 Grand Children: Bill Lane, Max Arons, & Kelly Monahan. He is preceded in death by his parents, and 1 Brother (William). Memorials may be made to the Monahan family for Memorials of the family's choice. The Clinton Herald
