William J. Shannon Some few years after Bro. William J. Shannon's admission to Illinois Council he was selected for the important office of Lecturer and the many excellent entertainments and high class programs offered under his administration remain as pleasant memories with his brother members. During business hours he is Chicago and Milwaukee representative for Charles Hellmuth, disposing of Kast and Ehinger's printing inks. The largest printing houses in Chicago are among his customers, but he considers no order too small to receive his personal and individual service. He is a member of LaSalle Assembly and has served on many of its committees. The Columbian and Western Catholic Chicago, Ill., January 26, 1917 Vo. XLV, No. 4, page 5. This was a Knights of Columbus newspaper "The oldest Catholic Paper in the West". I (Dennis Nicklaus) received the article from Pat T. Shannon, son of Robert A. Shannon. The article came from Robert A. Shannon, and was with other items Robert got from his uncle Walter Shannon, who shared a house and business with this William's sister, Isabelle Shannon. So I am guessing it was an old article Isabelle had saved about her brother, which was saved by Walter when she died. the news article included photo of William. There are other William J. Shannons in the extended family who the article might be talking about, though, such as William J. Shannon (1874--1935), the son of Patrick Shannon of Clinton County. The occupation here of printer's ink distributor doesn't match the occupations for William (1874--1935) in his 1900 wedding articles or 1935 obituary, though, which makes me think it isn't him.
