The Poll Tax Roll of 1695 for Paisley contains
an entry as follows:
``John Whyte, apothecarie, 12 lib. 6 sh.; Jean Johnstoun,
his spouse, 6 sh.; Robert, John, and Agnes Whytes,
his children, each 6 sh.; Jean Young, sert., 2 lib fie,
and 6 sh. general pole,[total] 13 [pounds] 17 [sh.] 6[d.].''
