I do not know that Joel's brother Samuel came to Pulaski Co., Kentucky, but since a Samuel Matthews acquires land and is taxed there, I would guess him to be Joel's brother. However, John Walker, of Ft. Worth, Texas, also traces his Matthews line back to a Samuel Matthews who lived in Pulaski Co. in the early 1800s. As noted earlier, there is evidence from the settlement of the estate of that Samuel's brother Burgess which states that Samuel and Burgess had no other siblings with descendents.
Samuel Matthews acquires land in Pulaski Co. as follows:
Samuel Mathes received Cert. 808 for 75 acres on Pitman Creek from the Pulaski Co. Court in August 1805.
Samuel Mathews received Cert. 902 (982?) for 50 acres adjacent to Burgess Matthews in a land warrant from Jan. 1807 Pulaski Co. court.
John Walker's ancestor Samuel had the following children. These are not presented as known descendents of this work's Matthews line. Mr. Walker has much more information on all the descendents of his ancestor Samuel Matthews.
Mr. Walker's research finds that his ancestor Samuel was born between 1760 and 1770 and died between 1826--1830 and his wife's name was Mary.
