Jane's Donnan branch of the Morrison family was nearly forgotten
by the Keokuk Co., Iowa Morrisons, but not quite.
According to rememberances of Sadie (Morrison) Shuger, Jane's
husband was named Dunnon and they lived in Poweshiek County
(Iowa) and they had a large family. Another report printed by
Harold Morrison from information from Ellis says Jane lived near
Grinnell (which is in Poweshiek County) and spells the name
Donnan .
The actual family was located in an 1880 Poweshiek Co. history
which states that John Donnan married Jane Morrisson [sic]
of Co. Down, Ireland.
Further records of the family have been obtained from various Poweshiek Co.
records such as censuses, cemeteries, and obituaries.
According to her obituary, Jane immigrated to the US on June 22, 1858
(the 1900 census says Jane immigrated in 1862).
She married John Donnan that November.
John Donnan had come to America in 1849. They lived in Rock Island
county after their marriage. In the Spring of 1870
they moved to a farm Poweshiek County, Iowa where they lived out their lives.
John's nephew, James Donnan, also came to Poweshiek county with his wife,
children, and mother, arriving there about 1876.
Jane united with the church in Ireland when 15 years of
age. She was one of the charter members of the Ewart United
Presbyterian church in 1876.
Jane and family lived in Washington Township of Poweshiek County,
with an Ewart address. This is roughly straight south of Grinnell
a couple miles.
The Ewart cemetery where several of the family are buried also
may be known as Jackson Twp Cemetery. It's also said to belong to
Pleasant (town or township?) and is sometimes called Pleasant
cemetery or Pleasant Township cemetery.
